''I'm pleased we're able to honour his memory with a star-studded BBC Four special, just as he would have wanted''
A genuine laugh out loud series, Havers is great in it . Pern will be sadly missed
Its not often I comment on RIP threads by have to say that I am very sad to hear this
His musical adaptation of 'Day Of The Triffids' was ground breaking
He also did so much to bring world music into the mainstream
RIP Brian
Oh how I wish I was at home with the Mrs! A sad day and great loss.
I've really enjoyed the Brian Pern series over the years.
A giant amongst men, Brian will be sorely missed.

It's often seen as bad form to speak ill of the dead, and I normally just refrain from commenting rather than airing my views, but Pern will not be missed IMO.
He seemed to embody the worst of "prog". To claim to have invented world music seems ridiculous - how can you even "invent" a form of music, never mind something as vague as "world". Similarly his band-related petty disagreements & misadventures make Spinal Tap look like a parody.
At best, he was a 2nd-rate Peter Gabriel, at worst, a 3rd-rate Peter Gabriel.
For goodness sake show some respect - after all the man is dead
I really don't know what this place is coming to, I remember when RIP threads were treated with reverence.
There goes my dream of a Thotch reunion tour.
Tickets would have been like the proverbial Rocking Horse Pool! Probably gone to a lottery or something.
Its a testament to Pern that he provoked the very best performance in his luminous career from ever ready stalwart Sir Roger Moore. His heart broken yet outraged rhetoric at the presumptious evil of the perverted alien plants is worthy of Shakespear.
Sir Roger never could never have galvanised those raw emotions from a generation fearful from the spectre of the Cold War if Pern had not provoked his dulcett tones into such politically knowing utterances.
"Those f%#king Triffids"
We salute you sir!
RIP Brian.
I loved all your weirdness.
I wish that Peter Gabriel had stopped impersonating you.
Cheers,
Neil.
Do we know that Peter Gabriel was not implicated in this 'segway mistake'? We know he had a grudge against the genius Pern.
