I have little doubt that ETA has researched and probably could release gps tech if needed. Say for Breitling.
Sofar however nothing and the Japanese manufacturers are pushing the frontiers along in their three pronged competition.
Like it or not, useful or not, it is awesome tech miniaturized into wristwatch size.
Have a look at what Seiko crammed into the Astro line:
The ring antenna in the bezel and the signal receiver.
The entire calibers, rechargeable battery, solar panel and all. Left the 8x and right the 7x.
The difference is only 2 years!!!! of development.
Like it or not, it sure is an awesome contrast to the mass production of the sometimes over half a century old mainstream mechanical designs in Swiss luxury watches.
Appearances aside, one has to appreciate the stark functional approach to the protecting metal covers.
Yet... in the Rolex quarts the left cover is nothing more nor less than just such a cover over electronics and ...
... a gold engraved Geneva stripe one does look better than a sticker on simple sheet metal.
