Do you think a Black Sumo is too similar to this?

I've been hankering for a black Sumo for years, I've found a decent deal but I'm not sure if it's too similar to my Batman Turtle? Would you have both?

Clearly they're completely different watches, the Batmans got some blue on it 😁

If you can afford it and its a good deal why the hell not. Both great watches and you'll regret letting the Sumo slip through your fingers.

Why not as they are totally different watches in all respects. It really depends on whether you need another dive watch.

A quick edit: Of course there are but I'm not included on that list as I have a few myself.

It was a question directed to the OP and his preferences.

Different dial, hands, case, size, colour. Personally, I think these are very different beasts. With other watch brands it looks like you only have to change the colour of a line of text for it to make a world of difference !

BTW, I am wearing my black Sumo as I type and it is a lovely watch which looks not like the Turtle.

Completely different and absolutely justified in having both ..... anybody non watchy would probably struggle to tell the difference - but what do they know.

Apart from the logo and the basic layout, the Sumo and Turtle have little in common in terms of design. Get the Sumo.

I'm just looking into my watch box right now, I have five dive watches with crown at the 4 o'clock position... and I'm trying to figure out what to get rid of in order to slot a Sumo in. I'm not looking at any of the divers.

Edited to add: one of them actually came from you! Not directly but my SKXA35 is ex-AAddict.

You can't have too many Seiko's in a collection so good decision.

Gorgeous, I miss that one already, and my SKX011J that I sold recently too. No doubt I'll miss them even more in summer.

I got your Padi. But if you find that the batman is similar to the sumo I will be up for that as well!

Nope, not similar at all. The Sumo is huge mind you.

    Sumo is 52mm x 44mm x 13.5mm

    Turtle is 48mm x 44mm x 14mm

So lug to lug is a bit longer. but slimmer watch.

Of course I would have both! Apart from the color difference, the turtle case is totally different, the hands are different, the movement is different, the size is different, etc. I really both, I have the 777 turtle, the skx, the MM300 and the Sumo is next on my list. I really like the low profile of the case, the finish on the case surfaces, the 6r15 movement, the overall looks, the signed crown. Go for it!

I have both and I'd say realistically they are quite similar. The look is not too different, they are roughly the same weight, I think they use the same clasp (but don't quote me on that). It's basically the difference between the cushion and regular case.

Well my Sumo arrived today and I love it. The finishing quality is a decent step up from the SRP Turtle and it fits me just perfectly (IMO). Very happy I went with the black as it looks stunning.

Striking watch and wears well on a decent size wrist - great photo. Enjoy.

Thanks, I expected it to wear bigger than the turtle due to the lug 2 lug length but if anything it feels a little smaller.

Looks great. Out of interest what is your wrist size and that lug-to-lug measurement?

7 to 7 1/4" I get a big swing with temperature. Lug to lug is 52.6mm I think.

Thanks. About the same as me then (inc the temperature effect). I would previously have said that lug-to-lug measurement was just too big for me. Your picture suggests it might work though, accepting of course that wrist shape varies from person to person. Mine is quite flat across the top. Will check out some side profiles to see how much those lugscurve down.

I must say I'm hugely impressed with the detail and finishing at this pricepoint

I say go for it: not too similar. I own a Sumo, 2 6306-7001s, and a 6309-7040; they all get some wrist time.
