My first choice would be the Bell and Ross. 2nd the Hamilton. The Tudor has that Breitling movement so there's that.

Looking through the recent Basel releases I feel that it has bee a good year for the chronograph in the $5000 (ish) bracket. As I currently don't own any chronographs I can feel some temptation building here.
Interested to hear comparative comments on the following and also please add more that I have missed in the new releases.
Obvious start here...
Bit marmite on the hands and bracelet but no denying the quality of the movement in this price range.
Next up - not a brand high on my wish list but I like the aesthetics here...
Bell and Ross V2-94
A classic re-issue of sorts - handy GMT bezel and although it has a date in the sub-dial I am confident I won't be able to see it in real life!
Heuer Autavia
Coming down the price range is the new Hamilton Intramatic - half the price of those above but still a looker.
And to include an outlier that is 50% above the price of the main list - The new range of Speedmaster Racing chronographs - some attractive colour ranges here
Any favorites here or others in this kind of price range ( I know White gold Daytona on rubber looks great but that is a league or two above these pricewise)

Maybe have a glance at the Zenith range, with the El Primero movement. Some pleasing stuff. I agree that there are a fair number of decent chronographs around. And there is also the classic Speedie Pro. Possibly the most iconic of them all. For a first chrono, hard to beat.
I was trying to get a discussion going on current new releases in and around $5k ish as there seem to be a few new choices
I really like the Tudor - Saw a pic on leather and it looked superb
Nope sorry not a fan of any of these, and I love chronographs.
Quite understandable, but isn't the real test how these new designs stand-up to the existing competition? They can't exist in a void. The Autavia would be my choice among them. But it still doesn't seem an advance on the Speedy Pro, neither do Omegas offerings, which seem a bit desperate . They have been over the same ground so many times.
Some really great looking watches here ! The Tudor seems a lot of a Marmite watch but I would definitely go for one at some stage.

Frederique constant has released some nice ones too, flyback too i believe.
True
Like most of them.
B & R looks very promising.
Heuer for me.
The autavia and the bell and Ross would be my choice...

I think the Speedmaster Racing models are an improvement on the previous versions.
The Heuer does look good and I like the bezel, I think that Tudor just has something - I know there are strong opposing opinions on this one but thr more I look at the pics it grows on me.
Personally I have always liked Omega and Heuer less in the flesh when I see one and Tudor has always done better in real life than on screen
For me it would have to be the classic Speedy Pro if still within budget.
That Autavia just gets better every time I see it.
Would love to see it with a blue second hand like that gorgeous Omega that's on here on the tan racing strap, forget the reference? Or even baby blue hand like some of the old omega's
As already mentioned - Frederique Constant with a new in-house flyback chrono at a shade under 4,000 yankee dollars. And a date subdial (at 6:00) so no moans about a badly positioned date window.
Seems like the year of the reverse Panda. The Speedy Tuesday will be the pick IMHO.
There is something about the tudor that just does not sit well with me. I think its just trying too hard, and lets not even mention the bracelet!
Speedy Tuesday would be my pick. The Autavia is also very nice but possibly too big for my skinny wrist.
Another vote for the Autavia here. Looks great on the tan colour strap.
All to big ... gongs ...
Got to try a couple on while out in Basel so thought I would share some wrist shots, (apologies for the quality)
The Zenith Pilot in the top shot looks a stunner. Unfortunately your wrist shot of the Speedy does it no favours, looks like a later Steinhart with the charcoal grey dial and brown plots - urgh !!
I like that strap combo for the Tudor. I'm a massive bracelet fan but that looks so much better.
I want.
I agree the Autavia looks so well executed, even with the date which I generally find abhorrent on chrono's. I hope Tag/Heuer get the branding right for separating Tag and Heuer.
The Frederique looks pretty nice too, though it looks a wee bit too big. I've never had a sundial for representing the date, so I'm not too sure how jarring that would be.
Hamilton looks the best but is still too big at 42mm
That Autavia is rather nice, if the Speedmaster Tuesday is taking first place that's a close second.
Love that Heuer Autavia!!

I wish i could find a 2 register chrono, with no date, the subdials not overlapping any dial elements and a 12 hour bezel!
I wish that Heuer and those huge Omegas' were 40mm.
Tudor is, for me, probably the best watch presented at Basel.
Talking about watches available to us mortals :)
It looks great on bracelet, leather and on denim-like nato strap.
I was looking forward to Tissot 1948 chronograph but couldn't find it, girls at the pavilion had no idea what model was that and at the time nobody of the representatives was there.

Dodane make a modern version - 2900 euros from their e-boutique, and you can choose which direction the numbers go - 'progressif' or 'degressif'. You can add a chronomètre certification and have the back engraved too, if you so desire.
I tried, but I just cannot warm to the Tudor. I've gone off the Daytona as well (to the extent that I sold my white dial 115620 a few months ago). The Speedy wins for me, especially on a leather strap. The Tuesday edition is especially nice.
That Autavia could've been so much better. The bezel is so big
The Tudor is pretty wierd mix, the Autavias besel is a smidge too large. JLC nailed it, excellent price tag too.

Really good to see Zentith making a strong return, all since Mr Biver is creating his magic again.
Yep, good point.
