    Seiko 62MAS Re-Issue at Basel 2017

Very strong rumours that Seiko will be announcing a 62MAS re-issue at Basel this year, now this photo is doing the rounds.

Its also rumoured to be using the 8L35 movement, although nothing confirmed yet. I hope its not a limited edition, either way, I'm definitely going to get one !!

    Seiko 62MAS Re-Issue at Basel 2017

Seiko are doing a great job of feeding my dive watch addiction. I just took delivery of a SBDC029 Shogun at the weekend and I'm eager to add to the Seiko collection.

As I have a nice original 6105 and 6309, and no hope of affording a 62MAS of a similar standard, first impressions are that I would be interested in this - provided they haven’t supersized it.

SBDX part number suggest £1500+ no?

Looks very interesting, probably too expensive, but has potential to address some of the issues I have with the MM300.
It's just a matter of time...

I am a member of a Spanish forum that indicates it has secured 10 of the 20 units to be allocated to Spain, and they state the RRP will be €3800, but they can offer them on the forum at €2750.
There are to be 2000 worldwide, so it is an LE.
It will be 39mm diameter and house the 8L35 movement.

~40mm, 8L and 62Mas style = Best release in a long time. I'm getting one for sure.

Agreed, although the price seems very high if the rumours of 2500 to 3000 Euros are true.

  26. #26
350,000 yen is what I read so that's approx £2500 but as most Seikos are marked up from the Japanese price a list around £3000 sounds about right.

Also rumour that there will be two non limited cheaper versions with the more basic Seiko movement but no pics of those yet.

The price I quoted above is a genuine offer, not a rumour

Might be worth speaking to Jura as they had the LE Blue Sammys and I guess as one of the few GS dealers in the UK they are the most likely place.

    What is this? Seriously....

As for the Seiko 62MAS, looks great, but alas I think I little too rich for my blood if the below indicated prices are correct.

I wonder why they went so high end with the movement and price.

I don't profess to know a lot about the original 62MAS but was the 6217A a flagship movement for them at the time? I always assumed the 62MAS was a budget diver at the time that became expensive due to collectors having to have one?

Don't get me wrong part of me thinks it's quite cool if it is going to be a premium piece but do you think they'd have created such a piece if the originals were swapping hands for £250? Then there's the other part of me that wishes it was more accessible to the less fortunate Seiko lover with a 4r36 and being £250-£300. Let's face it, a lot of us are into vintage Seiko because they are good value for money.

A lot of the fun with pricey old Seiko's is the journey they/we go on for them to get that way. I can't help thinking a £2500 new 'vintage diver' is something that's going to be kept as a shelf queen and the romance of finding a re-released 62MAS in years to come may not be there because they won't nearly all be trashed like the originals.

That's good news. Hopefully a 6R15 movement and under £500.

    Just to clarify.
    350 000 yen is confirmed.
    8L35 is confirmed.
    39,60mm is confirmed.
    LE of 2000 is confirmed.

So price will most likely be ~£3500 in The UK considering the weak £.

I think its the best release from SEIKO in quite some time, I'm glad they chose to go with the 8L movement. But it sure ain't cheap considering the already steep EU prices on SBDX017. I'll be getting one for sure.

Very nice, but expensive. You may get the original one at half the price.

I was wondering what it will do to the prices of the original actually? In fact, do owners of originals wince or rejoice when things like this happen? If you'd just paid £2500 for an original would you be wanting to sell it asap to buy a new one.

someone said it will be listed at JPY350,000..then Seiko is way way overconfident about their brand.

It's lovely - and I would want one - but not at Rolex money - not for a homage.

As a Seiko collector, I have an original 62MAS in a very good condition. If someone pays me £2500, I would sell it. But for that price, I would not purchase the new one. There are thousands of alternatives.

Looking at the one on eBay for £2300 I think £2500 would be pretty favourable for your watch there.

I Can't believe it. There is a difference between sale price and purchase price. Even if there are people with a full budget of bucks waiting to spend them as if there were no tomorrow.

Anyway, I will look for my alternatives :)
