IMO, it's not the diameter as such, but the lug to lug length.

I wear quite a few bigger watches (42mm+), but I find the Bulova looks a bit big to me.

I've not had one long, but I keep thinking of moving it on because of this.

Very true, what is the lug to lug? The most I can tolerate is 50mm sadly...

What kind of money can these usually be had for ?
Was looking at the Omega but a recent purchase has put that on hold!
Looking closer at this and I quite like it plus love the larger watches

RRP is approx £580 on Bracelet and just under £500 on strap but there are numerous places doing promotions of one sort or another. Currently Jura Watches will do you one on a strap at £320 with a good finance offer on top as well.

Just had a look and H Samuel has 25% of plus an additional 10% if signed up for email. Don't make the watch a bad price.

Thanks. I'm still tempted to try one even though I know my absolute max is 50mm. Love the design, especially of the black one and maybe the black case will make it appear smaller? If

I’d say go for it. I feel the shape of the case means they wear a bit smaller than you might expect. It’s a great watch at the price point.

I wasn't at all sure when I ordered mine last December as I usually wear 40mm or smaller. It's still here though and as others say is excellent value for what you get. Mine is on the bracelet which I feel looks better and adds to the "heft" which I like.

Fantastic watch, would prefer the s/s case with the non date dial with original logo.

Here is an interesting thing, the original Bulova patent from 1971. It was applied for in 1969, but published just one day after Apollo15 launched. For secrecy, probably.

Ooh young master, folk roun ere don' talk about such things. Why it's many a year since the old master splashed in the mill pond with his 5 atm pocket watch what old Silas left him.

Like I say, what happened next - well, folk don't like to say.

    Thank you Worzel Gummidge .

My own view is that I wouldn’t go swimming in it, but I’m pretty sure a 50m rating in a new watch that’s never been opened should survive an accidental dunking in the washing up bowl...

Depends what you are doing; a man walked on the moon with a 5 atm rating watch, another went to the top of Everest while others have been to the poles.

Sorry mate, just a bit of teasing.

There are a hundred opinions on here, including professional divers, watchmakers, experienced owners and google jockeys.

    General consensus seems to be:

A watch in good condition recently pressure tested to 50m/5atm should be fine in practice for swimming including underwater but not scuba diving.

Most manufacturers play fast and loose with the ratings and many in the forum wouldn't even swim with a 50m rated watch (I do).

Even those who do, probably wouldn't take their 50m rated £5k dress watch any where near water.

Some won't even take their brand new Rolex 4000m rated dive watch in a swimming pool.

I'd say if your 50m watch is not too valuable or sentimentally precious, and is newish or recently pressure tested, washing your hands should be absolutely fine. I'd worry more about the leather strap than the watch.

Tried the strap version on yesterday and was a bit disappointed!!
Think it was more the leather strap that comes fitted with this, only just fitted my wrist and looked very narrow.
Don't know now whether to bother or not!

Well, the carbon-look leather strap is parallel, so you won’t get anything on it that looks any chunkier, I’m afraid.

Personally I think it’s in proportion to the watch, but obviously that’s a matter of individual taste...

Love the watch, just disapointed with the strap, didn't look like what I was expecting.
Perhaps it's because I'm used to wider one ?

For the chunkier look I put mine on a Di-Modell Chronissimo...sorry about the quick phone pic and dusty watch, but you'll get the idea:

If anyone tries it, be warned, it'll look odd at first. Then, once you turn the strap down and around your wrist it lines up OK.

I get where you’re coming from. A lot of my watches are on 22 or 24mm (Breitling, Panerai, Maranez etc), so the slightly narrower strap on this does take a bit of getting used to.

Pickle’s Di-Modell is an interesting idea...

Has anyone seen any good deals for the black one? Like a lot of people I'd like the stainless steel with no date and the old logo but I'm happy to go for the black version instead. I see Amazon has it for 361.

Best price around for the original version appears to be Jura at £321. Best price for the black one seems to be mindforge’s price on Amazon...

Really surprised how much I like this watch.

The original straps are terrible so I went with a Crown and Buckle Harbor strap.

This recent article reviews the black version and it has a lume shot.

    Hmmm....

Thanks. I'll leave it directly under a lamp, then take it somewhere properly dark.

I guess I'm comparing it to Seiko Tuna levels of lume...

    New straps for Moonwatch

Thought I would post a few q&d pics of the new Haveston nato style straps I received as a Christmas present from my lovely daughter today. This is the Field strap collection.
She was actually supposed to have ordered 22mm versions but inadvertently ordered 20mm, so on they went to the Bulova Moonwatch.
I really am impressed with the quality, feel and comfort of these straps, they are a little different with a sliding keeper and the idea is that the buckle sits more or less centrally under the wrist.
They also came in presentation tins and tags, which also imparts the quality feel to them, overall Im very pleased.

    Merry Christmas all!
