Managed to scratch the crystal of my U1 yesterday -

A pretty unremarkable happenstance, except it's not the AR that's scratched - I removed it yonks ago as its previous owner had already damaged it - no, it's the ruddy sapphire itself!

Something in our so-called 'granite' (actually a dolerite of some sort) worktops was hard enough to abrade it. It's not impossible that there's some corundum in the stone I guess.

Faintly irked TBH, as I'd not expect it to get scratched, but it's a tool watch and already has some very light marks in the metalwork, so I can live with it.

On the wrist recently my Sinn U2-W 😁
The perpetual teenager that lives inside me, giggles every single time I think of the serial #(069-150)
On the way, I have a Sinn 104 St SA W, thanks to sales corner and my being weak willed.
I just need to convince the wife the I've always had the 104 if she asks 😉
As I am on a watch buying hiatus.

I was lucky enough to be browsing the Sales Corner when Wandril listed the below Sinn StSa W at a very decent price.
I dropped a message and happy to see we did a deal.
Have already posted on the H&V sub, but to reiterate.
A very responsive and thoroughly decent chap.

The 104, will be joining my U2-SDR, U2-W and my 103 Destro/Military MkIV.
I am ploughing a very Sinn heavy furrow with my collection currently, but?
    I just love them!
    Brilliant value and always distinctive.

Take heart, it looks like the circuit de Monza has been etched on the crystal. Seriously, I understand your pain. New crystal at service for sure.

That made me smile. I'm not overly bothered - as I say, it's a tool watch, so a few battle scars seem apt.

That said, it's overdue a service, and I might replace it and see if they can pop a blue dial in there as well, since I'll never find a U1-B at a sane price!

I'm now up to owning 4 Sinn 😁
2 are LE's and 2 from the standard range.
    U2-W
    U2-SDR
    103 Military MkIV Destro
104 St SA W that I picked up last week from Wandril.
Sinn are now fully ⅓ of my watch box and I still fancy a couple of more, particularly a Damaszener or a Hunting.

I picked up a white silicon strap and tegimented butterfly clasp via SC last week.
I thought the white might suit my Sinn U2-W and after fitting it?
I do think it gives a vibe like a cross between a toy and a proper tool watch.
My young lad has taken to calling it the "Stormtrooper" which means it'll never be a hit I guess 🤷

Put the first scratch in the AR on mine a few weeks ago, have to admit it's pretty faint though.

Exactly, they're meant to be used. A proper tool watch!

Mind if I ask how you removed AR on yours? Been umming and ahhing about doing mine for ages.

I did it the masochistic way with Polywatch and a Dremel. If you do so, be careful not to overheat the crystal, especially not in localised areas, as it is possible to crack the crystal (I haven't - yet... But...).

Eeek, don't know if I have the courage for that! Will just have to wear my faint, hardly discernible scratch in the AR as a badge of pride. 

Oh, and thank you very much for the information!

1500 grit wet and dry is the most effective way I've found. It feels like you're scratching the hell out of the crystal when doing it, but the only thing harder than sapphire is diamond and so it doesn't leave a mark. Just be careful to mask the bezel if you can't remove the crystal first.

I don't have the bottle to try that - I managed to scratch a sapphire crystal (no external AR coating - the actual sapphire) by catching it on a 'granite' (Larvikite) worktop. There's no way there's any diamond in that stuff, but it still managed to scratch the crystal, so...

Introduce velocity and a softer material will still scratch sapphire, but if your watch could talk it would be saying "yeah, but you should see the state of the other guy."

Chortle! Yep - I can live with the damage, it's small and inconspicuous, and part of me prefers a bit of a lived-in look

My 156 is missing form this picture… I love the timeless 103 case which is basically the Autavia 2446c compression case…

Decided to keep both 103 klassiks now,

I’ve been speaking to Sinn about them, and they have now confirmed (both a real obv course) and also 1 has a production ‘issue’ with the dial.

As you can see in photo, 1 has near white sub dials and the other silver.

They didn’t fully confirm which way it was round but early on in conversation they alluded to the white dial was the different one. They didn’t confirm how many but said small batch. So in my head different watches now haha and also it’s very limited being dial issues on an already limited run of 500 watches

This photo shows it but will get some better ones anther day

I had a delivery from Sinn this morning

A new bezel insert and click spring

The newer insert is slightly different to the original
Smaller lume pip and a less shiny finish
Bezel spring is much firmer but that is likely because it’s new

Looks great. Bang-on the sweetspot visually for me ...just a shame Sinn's clasps are so horrible.

It wears really well on the silicone. I have a red silicone on its way, and the tegimented push button divers clasp.

On the bracelet the tegimented clasp is a step up from the normal one, much firmer and heftier. It doesn't have the liquid feel of the Omega micro adjust clasp, but it certainly keeps the bracelet closed and is tool-ish, which is what someone would expect of course.

Cool - that's a great result. Admittedly I haven't tried the latest version of the larger clasp.

I do like these watches on a red strap -
