The Omega GREAT WHITE - 500 posts and counting!

Well, technically it is the 501st :) ...

Anyway, I'm sure a lot of you will have seen some of my comments in various threads about the Great White I recently purchased. I put up a WTB and kindly someone sent me message, pointing me in the direction where I could pick one up at a reasonable price.

Long story short, I bought it, there was an issue with it, I sent it back, and today it has just landed with me again after a service, in time for my holiday (perfect use for the GMT function!).

    How'd I find myself here??
    ....
Having yearned for 2531.80 for a while I got one this time last year. It was a beaut and I loved wearing it. I still wanted the GMT as being from a far off land I always liked knowing the time back 'home'. I decided to trade up for an ExplorerII and as nice as it was, I still had a soft spot for the Omega and found myself questioning if I'd done the right thing... the wavy dial, no cyclops (surprised how much this got at me), perfect size, distinct shape...Why not combine all the bits I liked? All of this led me towards the Great White. Add in the white dial and GMT and I'd pretty much found "the one" for me.

Unfortunately I'm still at work, so the photo below is the best I can do on my dodgy Sony phone. Hopefully after my break I'll get some better photos in.

I see this one being a keeper!

Here it is, comfortably on my brand new Hirsch Rubber strap.

My 500 posts have been a while coming. I went away for a while and came back, and have found the forum on the whole to be a great place, with some great people (met some of the nice blokes in F2F deals too), and a source of a lot of great information, watch related and otherwise!

Thanks to Eddie as always for keeping this place going, and thanks to all those I've dealt with.

Agreed! Simple, but with enough going on if you look close enough and I think the hands, markers, dial etc all suit each other rather well :)

Thanks! I've been thinking about forking out for the OEM bracelet from the OB, but with that amount of money I could have a dozen choices or more.

No sure if you got it on the Bracelet, the bracelet is the speedie one and real high quality. Honestly for general holiday wear, out in the blazing sun, beach and swimming with risk of scraping rocks rocks etc I'd go Isofrane. Usually watchobsession sell them at reasonable prices.

Another of those 'why didn't I keep it' watches. :-(

    On my favourite combo:

Bugger, I'm now thinking of getting another...

That last strap looks great, Ralphy. Any chance you recall where it's from?

Well I was about to say it looks like a DiModell Chronissimo strap but the file name of the image is 'omegagmttoshi.jpg'... doesn't look like a Toshi to me though.

You're correct, it is a DiModell Chronissimo. Got labelled up wrongly as I'd put it into my Toshi folder.

Really like that, lovely textured dial and thick slabs of lume, and omission of helium valve at 11 o'clock.

what I don't like is the size of the font on the bezel, would have been better if etched and used different font and font size!

This white dial would look fantastic in the 2254 diver.

I too agree the font is a little large. But it's a nice watch

I actually love the big font very readable. The only knock I can give my PRS3-LE is because of the 12 hour time and 60 minute marker I need glasses to read it off. The font on the GMT screams at you!

...with the number of people on here stating a revived interest or new interest in this model I can see a huge spike in demand over the short term! Think I will wait awhile.....we will all be competing with each other :)
