To reply to a particular poster without quoting?
I notice posters sometimes use hashtags in their posts.
I understand they have some use on twitter (although don't use it), but on here what are they for?
To reply to a particular poster without quoting?
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.
If you're replying to a poster without quoting, you'd simply use '@', as in '@ Saint-Just: I believe you're mistaken'
I believe the hash-tags sometimes appear because of cut'n'paste (and lack of editing). They're meaningless on here.

Jim.
Don't think so, it's in this thread http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...-us-yer-clocks.
On reflection, think #backintheday just means "back in the day" TBH and it's how people post nowadays. Didn't want to side-track that thread by asking there!
Quite possibly jwg. I have therefore fully demonstrated my expertise with Twitter

It’s not just Twitter, but some forum software (not sure if latest vB version have it too) use the @‘member’s name’ as it generates a notification that they’ve been tagged/had a comment made.
Similarly the same happens if they quote your post.
Hashtag<get with the program grandad>*
Actually a really good question, I thought it was just a twitterism that had become part of the language to express, well, something in place of proper English?
I can't even find the hashtag on my keyboard since it states that shift 3 is a hashtag but in fact that's a pound sign. Oh well, it's not like I'll be using hashtags anytime soon. Hashtag <old skool cool>. Ahem
I thought on here it may be in response to a post number. I can't say I've noticed one on this forum though
Don't see the point unless it's functional such as on Twitter and now Facebook when used properly. Ideally for a sporting or news event so you can see what's going on within that subject.
It's painful to see it on Facebook where someone is posting a picture of their kid and it says #theygrowupsoquick #mybabyissobignow #proudmummy. bugger off. Sorry, #buggeroff
#couldn'tgiveaf##k
What really annoys me is when people actually use it in sentences!!!
That and when people say "can I AXE you a question" it's ASK you moron.
almost home time Wibble Wibble.....
It's an affectation used by the young and the pretend-they-are-still-young. Often used for emphasis, effect or merely to confirm that I don't want to have a pint with the offender.
#pisstaking mostly ;)

I do not understand any of this
Who are you people and what are you doing in the day room?
If your staying we could have a game of dominos I suppose
What happens if you hashtag a hashtag? Is it like Candyman and Bill Gates comes out of the mirror and kills you with C++
The night staff are serving cocoa in the dining room - perhaps you could all go in there, I can barely hear the wireless. I do hope that Kenneth Williams is on Just A Minute tonight.
If its the price tag that is still attached to my new cardigan your on about then I can assure you that it doesn't bother me in the least.
Phew, at least this thread wasn't about hang tags.

If I wanted to criticise the number of size 7 brogues for sale, I could write 'Here we go - another pair of small shoes on SC'. Or I could write #shoecorner
If I was a wee trendy young thing.
Edit: And not a grumpy old whatsit.
