Indicating how specialist, hobbyist opinion counts for very little in the global market!

TAG Heuer's sales rose 14% in 2016 according to their Ceo.
Obviously a lot of love still out there for the brand even though it never appears to be a favorite of this forum (with the exception of the vintage Heuer pieces).

Tag Heuer do make some very good watches, all of the cases and bracelets are very well made and robust.
I'll refrain from saying the watches are good values as I think the price of a lot of Swiss watches has got silly - plenty of mediocre watches can be had for £2k! - the prices of Tag Heuer started to increase with the market but appear to have stabilized.
Tag Heuer have a good High Street presence, their use of brand ambassadors is dubious but appeals to a large portion of the general public and definitely helps promote the luxury appeal of their products.
On a dedicated forum like this people can scoff but to the average guy on the street Tag Heuer is a "high end" luxury brand.
I've owned and still own a few Tag Heuer watches, all going strong.
I find Tag Heuer a very unique brand in this hobby.
Vintage Heuers have been subject to the most amazingly steep value increase over the last few years.
I can remember all models of Autavia being readily available for under £1500.
The wierd thing is that the love of the vintage is almost totally removed from the general disdain for the modern stuff, even when it tries (very hard) to be like the vintage.
In this game it certainly seems
Heuer = good
Tag Heuer = meh
I think they're a very switched on brand and pleased to see they're doing well in tough times for the Swiss watch industry.
I do like the TAG Heuer offering & can see myself owning a Carrera calibre 16 auto chronograph brown face with a nice rally leather strap, easily obtainable for £1500 off a well know auction site at some point in the future.
However, the same watch new is circa £3550 which I think has put them in amongst some heavy weight competition, hence the lack of love for them on this particular forum.
Also, with display's in pretty much every single jewelers in every single shopping mall, they are hardly exclusive.....
Before I'd joined this forum I did think Tag were up there with Rolex etc. as a premium brand. This is obviously not quite the case! But I think they have done an excellent job as punching above their weight if you will. Their perception is that of a higher marque so when Joe Bloggs wants a "right nice watch" he will go to a Jeweller and see that a Rolex is actually really quite a lot more, and the Tag is so much cheaper, despite it still being one of the big boys.
On the flip side to this is your Tudor's etc. where Mr Bloggs will look at it and decide he's not spending that kind of money on a watch he's never heard of.
This forum certainly opens your eyes
I think they have done well by increasing their value ratio. Most folks on watch forums are just biased or clinging on to opinions formed years ago.

Nothing wrong with a TAG in my opinion and I am fairly certain they have come down in price over the last 12-18 months. Would love a blue dialed Monaco for example, classic case.
I think some of their f1 and aquaracer watches are excellent value for money and in the £800-£1200 price bracket they are hard to beat especially if you find a heavily discounted piece
I don't own one but I do like the brand and the watches. I know they get a bad press generally on here, but that always comes across to me as a bit irrational and snobbish. Great to see the brand having success over the last 12 months, I hope it continues.
A post about TH pops up fairly often, but I agree with this. There is nothing materially better or worse with a Tag than a lot of swiss brands. I'm not sure they innovate as much as some others a little above TH prices, but they are a swiss watch that an owener should be proud of. I think their pricing can be a bit...inconsistent. But if Tag's are not worth the cash, I don't see how an Oris is.
Having said that, this is a mental price https://www.tagheuer.com/en-gb/watch...sar8a80-bf0605 as far as I can tell that's just the bracelet? (I know swiss Ti bracelets are a lot...but still).
First, yes some real innovations (remember the Monaco that flipped?). But, I think they charge disproportionately more for them. Bigger thing that bugs me though...The reliance on pretty old fashioned case materials. Maybe it's just me, but I do wish they'd swap some of the black PVD coated stuff for DLC. I've been interested in a couple of TAG's and been put off by Ti carbide rather than DLC or ceramic. Shame.
But, you're right on the whole, they are as good as anything really. And I'm glad the link was the whole watch!!
Value for money in the second hand market you can't beat a Carrera IMO
Picked up an Aquaracer as my beater last year. The RRP was mental for the quality but for the price I paid it's comprable to a Longines or Oris but with much better brand recognition, which they still seem to trade off too much IMO. I think they could still afford to up the quality a notch for the same price and keep margins decent. And that I imagine has been a major problem many have had with them
My first swiss watch was a tag and I loved it, then I joined a few forums and started to neglect my humble tag. I've worn it this wknd for the fist time in probably almost a year and I've loved it.

I know nothing of the internals, but I liked the look of this when i saw it the other day
I've contributed two sales to that figure (one for myself, one for my brother). Tag aren't a forum darling, but I still think they make decent pieces.
I'm at risk of adding to the sales on each visit to York designer outlet.
They had a Tag Heuer RS2, black and orange with over £2k off the list price this weekend..........very very tempting
I had a tag Mcqueen Monaco for a few years and a Rolex 14060m no date sub. I shifted them in as I needed some cash for some workstations in a hurry.
To be honest I have every intention of buying some replacements just as soon as I can. However for the Monaco it will either be a vintage Heuer or slightly more realistically the fairly accurate reissues that Tag have put out in recent years.
Their other stuff I'm not too cool with but saying that I'm not big on most of Omegas curent range either.
I go in there most trips to the outlet and they do have some decent stuff at a nice reduced rate. But I am not the biggest fan of tags really that what has stopped me in the past.
But like others have said if you stopped 10 people on the street and asked them to name a big watch brand tag would be listed more than PP, hublot, AP, JLC, VC, etc.
Revenues by the looks of things. I saw the headline on Bloomberg that morning, it was taken from an interview with Jean-Claude Biver (TAG Heuer Ceo) by Neue Zuercher Zeitung.
A couple of further sound bites:
TAG Heuer's smartwatch & resulting publicity played a role in revenue increase.
Main priority remains America, even as TAG Heuer, owned by LVMH, expands in China.
Says won't remain interim Ceo of Zenith watch brand for as long as at TAG Heuer, which has been since 2014.
Says needs to reduce Zenith's dependence on Chinese market; brand has no smartwatch plans.
NOTE: 8th January: TAG Heuer Ceo sees return to growth for Swiss watchmaking.
It'll probably be said most. Or up there with Rolex as joint top.
Rolex, Tag, Breitling, Omega... Then I dare say even Armani and Michael Korrs will be mentioned before PP etc.
Hublot maybe due to their links with rich footballers, I think they're a partner of Manchester United
