Recommend me a watch for £250

So, as I'm new to understanding wstches (I thought DKNY was a good brand)! I'd like to ask the forum masses to recommend me a watch around the £250 mark.

The reason I ask this is because I don't know much, I only found out about Bulova last week, can't believe I'm missing out!

Most watches I buy are Argos specials accurists, rotary etc and for no more than £100.

My 2 fave watches and most expensive aswell are an skx007 and a mako XL.

Based on that, what you guys recommend?

If you can wait a few months then these will be back start of May..

    http://helmwatches.com/vanuatu.html

    Blinkin bargain I think.

Or cheaper still, could look at Aragon, get a Tritium diver for under £200 delivered.

You can't go too far wrong with the SKX but I bought mine a few years ago and it cost not much more than £100 for a JDM model IIRC. Now to get one in the UK in JDM people are asking £250. When you compare the quality (especially things like alignment of chapter ring, bezel and Lume application) the SKX seems expensive now compared to something like the Helm!

Plenty to choose from here: www.timefactors.com

Personally I'd go for a Smiths Everest:

    No brainer.
This and a boat load of different straps and a decent strap changing tool:

Check out this list and If you like divers have a look at Scurfa Watches.

jchlu, the SKX007 is a great watch but why should the OP own 2 of them?

Thanks for all the replies, I forgot to mention I have big wrists and although I love my skx I feel it's a bit small on my wrists

Not a great pic but I'm a big lad (fatty lol)

The photo is deceiving it's a bad angle. That's why after I bought he skx I bought a mako XL which suits my wrists better in terms of size

Try and pick up a secondhand Seiko sumo. This will probably be right up your street.

One of my favourite watches is my Scurfa Bell diver automatic, I would have thought second hand examples would be around your budget

Another vote for the Seiko Sumo.. It wears a good bit larger than the 007 and is available in blue or black face..

Do look at Eddie's site, some great value there.

Other than that, Armida A1 - all day.
Love mine, wear it a lot.

Some of the best lume I have ever seen. Mine cost me less than you quote but since then exchange rates have not gone well.

Alright, no need to rub it in :)

Try a Seiko Turtle - a definite step up from the SKX

Hahahahaha. This was an unintentional insult. Seriously, the sumo is a dream diver for the bigger wrist.

I also have huge wrists and at this price point I'm a big fan of the orient brand. In fact I'm wearing this GMT today. I defy anyone to look at this watch and realise it's so inexpensive

Since you own an SKX007 and a Mako XL already, I'm assuming you want another diver? Nobody seems to have asked you that yet...

If you do then I'd certainly suggest you take a look at the Seiko Turtle re-issues. I used to have an SKX009, still have an orange-dialled Mako XL and now own a PADI. I'll warn you though, if you start looking at turtles it madly spoil you for your 007 - in my personal opinion the Turtle is s clear step up...

I really did like the Seiko turtle padi but it's a little out of my price range at £350.

But with this introduction to a wider world of watches I wanted to know if there was anything else.

I really like the steinhart ocean 1 but I think it's too much like the skx.

I like the turquoise turtle that Jura watches have.

I can't argue with the Seiko suggestions, but as you already have one how about looking for a birth year watch as a bit of fun, or a more vintage watch? As an example, old Omega f300 Electronics are around that price and can be had in decent sizes.

I got this old one dating from 1974 for around £200.

I love my Sarb 35 - switches brilliantly between the bracelet and leather for two different looks.

Good shout that. Exactly where I started on this hobby. In fact that f300 looks exactly like the one I sold last year. 👍

Steinhart have some good offerings. If you were to sell your SKX and add the £250 you could have some nice choices from them.

I bought it on here a couple of years ago now but can't remember who from. Great watches even though it does seem to eat batteries!

Was in my jeweller sorting out a couple of watches I'm planning to sell today and had him flip a new battery in while I was there so think it'll will be getting a bit more wrist time now. I couldn't help holding it up to my ear when he handed it back - love that hum!

You cannot beat a Seiko turtle prosper diver , have a look at these SRP773 , SRP777 and SRP775 , these are available for around £250 and viewed as an upgrade of the excellent SKX007

Or another good choice would be a Seiko skx007 and then a super solid links oyster bracelet , should set you back around £230-250 in total

Sorry, I'm planning to keep it.

And to Seikoboy, I think the OP already has an SKX007, but agree that or a 009 fits the brief perfectly!
