No it doesn't. The head is nice, the rest of the pack looks like something a 1970s Geography teacher with a tweed jacket would wear, brown watch strap to go with his sown on elbow pads and trim around the cuffs.

Why do you think most buyers are looking at and pre-ordering other options. The NATO looks like something Mike Ashley would sell and brown leather stuff is just awful.

I hasten to add that I also have one reserved, but the package is crap.

I was tempted to say similar but as a resident of the "waiting list", I rather thought it would be seen as sour grapes.

Regretfully I must agree, the accessories and packaging are very dissapointing!

Look on the bright side - at least you don't need a new extension to house a gigantic series of boxes!

I don't understand the problem with minimal packaging. Surely you only need it twice, something for the watch to arrive in and when you come to sell?

Or do folks sit around admiring the gargantuan boxes a speedy pro arrives in?

Same. I think the current HUMONGOUS Black box that the speedmaster is actually a HINDERANCE for me to buy one as i just think its stupid and ridiculous for it to have to come in such a box. But I can see why Omega wants to sell it like that to jack up the prices. But i wish watches in general, not just Omega would come in smaller boxes or even watch rolls like this one. Just no need for a huge box, doesn't serve any purpose whatsoever.

Edit: Sorry just seen the other thread on this.

So this should set the market value in a weeks time!

It'll be interesting. I imagine there would be a lot of bidders from abroad.

I wouldn't be happy accepting PayPal, but if I were the buyer I'd be unhappy doing bank transfer.

Low eBay feedback score and he doesn't have the watch yet. Not sure I would be bidding if I was in the queue for one!

I agree - it's a monumental pain in the arse. The small classic red boxes are much nicer and can be stored easily.

They often don't age well though.

The new small wooden boxes are classier. :)

For blokes, pretty much everything not a Speedmaster or LE now. This is the standard box, you can actually buy them direct from Omega at a not too extortionate price.

Whatever used to come in the red boxes, I think. Seamasters etc.

Yours for £50 direct from Omega though.

Rolex are often slated for their minimal packaging but giant boxes are unnecessary. The recent 'upgrade' to the Speedy Pro package was a cynical price hiking exercise.

Snap. I got the big box with my new Moonphase.

The smaller red box and white outer box came with the Ed White.

I started a thread on the OF to seek the opion of the old hands on there to see if they thought these bits and pieces were consistent with a 1964 watch and several confirmed that they were period correct.

That is by far the best packaging as far as I'm concerned. Being as the Speedmaster has remained virtually unchanged for decades and is a modern 'vintage' piece then why not just keep this instead?

I agree Ian. The smaller boxes are much nicer and a lot cheaper to send through the post when you flip. Those great big boxes cost £30 a time by RMSD

How come I'm the only one here that thinks the giant moon box of goodies is fantastic, and somewhat cheated when a Rolex costing thrice the amount is presented in a lurid mint green faux suede box?!

I have always maintained, luxury watchmakers need to up their box game - ok perhaps not moonbox, but better than many currently do, irrespective of the fact they sit in the loft.

The big box is quality. I would love to rip the watch holder bit out and use it as a trinket box, but like everyone else it gets stored in the wardrobe and only lifted out when you sell.

It is as though it is not yours, you are just looking after it for the next owner.

There are three now on eBay, another "I'm collecting in a few days" and this one which has actually been collected.

    Edit: damn too slow!

It was for me but gladly TZ kept me amused. Our Ebay seller thought it would be a good idea for an opening post to try and sell his newly acquired ST to the highest bidder, right here on the watch talk forum. Thankfully he was shot down quickly, removed and thread deleted. Hence why the watch is now on Ebay.

I've also had a busy day at work and missed all of the fun!

Fascinated to see what happens with these in the short and medium term. It is a great looking watch in my opinion, but how great above £4100...!?

So what you're saying is that you never really own a Speedy Moonbox - you merely look after it for the next generation owner?

    Someone should patent that!

Congratulations - did you pick up? Didn't know they opened that early.

I'm certain Laing are slacking and have received mine but haven't phoned me.

Claims to be a watch enthusiast / collector but doesn't know that a Speedmaster Pro is neither an Automatic NOR a quartz. I wouldn't be going anywhere near that auction, nor the seller.

Someone purely seeking profit with no knowledge of the item they want to sell.

I reckon maybe £1k at most once the craziness subsides...it seems like the demand is likely to come US folks who were asleep when it launched.

I am inclined to agree with others on this one, there will be some initial madness as some of the more serious types pay silly money to get one early, like we have seen with the Daytona and SD43. Eventually things will calm down and these should be available for between £5k and £6k. I don't see second hand ones selling at RRP any time soon.
