Really shocked, just heard it as well. No details other than he passed peacefully currently. Such sad news.

Jesus Christ this year has been fatal... Died at 53 years old... That's very weird for someone who could probably afford good healthcare and such. I wonder what was it... Surely it can't be "natural" .... ?

I think everyone, no matter their taste in music, has a soft spot for something of his. For me, it was "Wake Me Up" when I was a child, and his Older album when I was grown up. A serious musician, and a great singer.

Certainly no age to die. What a bad year 2016 as been, in more ways than one. R.I.P.

A genuine talent who wrote and sang the soundtrack to my childhood and teenage years.

    A stunning loss.

    Shocked as others have said.

His cover of I can't make you love me is one of my all time favourites.

    A huge shock.

No age to go (well, I hope - he's only 18 months up on me)

    Wow.

Very talented, and a real shame.

Can't help but think his lifestyle choices have hurried him along though.

Noooo!!! I grew up listening to him and managed to see him in concert 4 years ago. Even with his problems his voice was still spine tingling. RIP Yog.

I'm hoping that you'll be able to zoom in on the detail of this photo and be able to read this 1982 Smash Hits article (note the journalist's name!)

Still trying to take this in and struggling......

Absolutely awful, terrible news - grew up listening to him and he remains one of my favourite artists of all time.

Followed since the first Wham release of 'young guns'......

    RIP George Michael

Yep...one minute you're a young gun, having some fun...

'Tis a shocker indeed, maybe not everyones fav artist, but throughout his time, from Young Guns,to Club Tropicana, to Faith, huge huge hits that most people would know.

    RIP George

Anybody who can write lyrics like "guilty feet have got no rhythm" at 18 deserves major respect.

Indeed, very sad news. I realized how good he was when he performed at Wembley, at the Freddy Mercury Tribute. He was the only one who could match Freddy. Indeed, 53 makes me feel old.

My sister was a mahoosive fan... big memories from childhood... I remember being in Skegvegas and not being able to move for those 'choose life' shirts and wanabee George Michael hairdos

Spot on, I remember watching that gig and he was the only one who could do Freddie's work justice. Surprised me at the time.

    RIP George.

Sad news, but you sensed he was a man who burnt the candle from both ends.

Definitely a talent though, whether you were a fan or not.

I said to my wife as we got up yesterday "I wonder who will die today"

I grew up in the same area as him and Andrew Ridgeley and knew two people in the Last Christmas video. Ridgeley was a fairly frequent visitor to my local and even owned a bar in the area post-Wham!. I only met George once. Someone from the pub looked like him and appeared in the Sun as a Page 7 Fella. George turned up and signed the picture and it was put up near the dart board.
He was quieter and more reserved than Andrew, who really made the most of his situation.

Good grief, just saw the news on the BBC website. Ridiculous year, RIP indeed.

Still taking the sad news in, we knew he wasn't well but this is like a bolt out of the blue! I met him several times and he was such a lovely guy, especially to my missus who literally went to mush when I introduced her to him.
I'm sure I have at least one of his songs on every one of my playlists and we must've heard "Last Christmas" so many times yesterday.
