What a lovely thing for so little money

Was doing ebay searches looking for a Seagull Chronograph, and up popped this thing.

"Unique flying saucer dial with ultrathin beer cap shaped glass mirror"

    38.5mm

    Seagull 1700A Hand wind movement

Even though it's only available in gold tone, there's no denying, it's actually a bit of a looker.

£39.69 all inclusive of delivery from China.

    Incredible, absolutely incredible.

That handwind movement is, iirc, just the ST17 auto with the rotor removed, which is why there's only a little display porthole - the rest looks a bit funny. The ST17 was the movement in the very popular $120 Rodina suspiciously-accurate-Tangomat-homage. I found it to be accurate and reliable (something like +10s/d)

    Not bad at all.

That's pretty decent and a great price, I see that they do a white faced one also.

Lovely. I'd prefer it to be 39-40.

I agree, it looks very nice.

Way too large for my taste though - 34 or 35mm and I would have been tempted.

I'm confused as to why my posts are clocking in at 1820 odd when it's clearly 1725 here in U.K.

By strange coincidence I came across these yesterday evening when looking at images of Junghans .... and ordered the white dial version! I don't expect much, but it seemed worth checking it out for a few pence under £40!

    This, though I'd go 36-38mm.

Good effort. Far too large for me, and if I were being picky, I'd have a less rounded crown, a different brand name and more applied indices along with a maximum 38mm size... but at the price it would be churlish to complain - I think I'm trying to mentally turn it into a Calatrava, JLC, or vintage IWC!

Nice, but could do with being smaller.

I wonder what Chinese pieces are available 33mm - 35mm?

Just off to fire up Google......

For what it is its a good buy, but the title "Compadre Personal Tailor" doesn't make quite the sense perhaps the manufacturer thinks it does...

... that said, there are some ridiculously-named watches selling for thousands of pounds.

Looks like a nice watch for the money. I like the unique flying saucer dial.

Must say that looks very nice, esp the little see through bit on the back, for the price. Well done...

    Wanted - Damasko DC57

This listing for what looks like the same watch lists it as 38.5mm diameter:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Compadre-M...DC0nVYVBQqo6TQ

Be interesting to see a wrist shot and accurate diameter measurement when you receive it KP.

Wonder if 42mm includes the crown? I was surprised at that size, because I would have expected the subdial to be less nicely position (or the movement to be a Unitas clone)

Regarding the discussion over the size of the watch, I ordered mine based on the review here - https://www.tapatalk.com/topic/13788...us-dress-watch - which states the diameter to be 38.5mm.

I'll let you all know if that's correct when it arrives!

Edit: Sorry Alpha4, I've just noticed your post at #22 which tallies with what I thought.

For that money I have bought one!

I don't know where I got the 42mm from, so it's likely that the 38.5mm is more accurate.

It could have been the slightly odd measurements given in the ebay ad:
    Product Size(L x W x H): 24.00 x 4.20 x 0.50 cm / 9.45 x 1.65 x 0.2 inches

ie the 4.20 cm could be the overall diameter, and thus the 'width of the product'. Then again there's also this "Dial Diameter: 1.5' and I've no idea what that means!

Dial diameter one and a half feet?!!! I'm starting to regret my purchase.

  30. #30
If I am looking at the same listing it does state :-"Dial Diameter: 1.5.Dial Diameter Unit: inch"
    among other details.
Hope this helps to clear things up.

And it is here. Exactly the same as the picture as in the first post. Certainly it was good value.

Yes, mine arrived too, last Saturday. Well worth the price I'd say (under £40 delivered)!
