Why???

Utter cxxxs. They just lost a potential customer.
Why???
Very poor taste.
Not my thing- engraving or hunting.
Still, it sounds like an overreaction.
Not really Panerai's fault, is it?
Apparently Richemont group owns them and the gunmakers..
Poor taste nonetheless

Did any animals die in the making of the watch?
Plenty of people seem happy to wear copies of Luftwaffe pilots watches without thinking it's going to cause a blitzkrieg and the killing of innocent children.
I see the OP's problem, and completely agree. Having that monstrosity coming out of the factory de-values the rest of the range a little, completely and utterly snobbish behaviour but who cares, with a luxury item such as a watch - at the prices Panerai go for, we're entitled to feel that way...
Not for me but there must be enough people willing to pull the trigger on that bad boy.
The way things are going, give it 50 years - maybe only 20 - and the only place you'll see these animals is in pictures. Why anyone would want to shoot one is totally beyond my comprehension, and whilst the workmanship involved in these engravings is undoubtedly amazing, the result is garish tat

Also AblogtoWatch should be ashamed of their review:
"If you need a shot of classy, old-timey testosterone, this seems like an good option"
What is classy about shooting wild animals for fun? Given many of the animals are the fully grown adult animals how about anyone who wants to shoot an animal has to have their own parent shot first (then they can have a licence knowing how it feels) by someone who enjoys killing people (perhaps a jailed murderer, because we lock them away)
In bad taste in my opinion . Don't see anything wrong with the association with Purdy but the dual link with these beautiful animals , calling them game basically sends a bad message .
I don't like Big game hunting , I don't think it has a place in modern society , it achieves nothing and lends itself to being a motivator for a negative impact on the tireless work spent in saving endangered species .
Modern guns are extremely powerful and remove any real skill hunters had decades ago . All to create a pose picture and feel brave and empowered , quite sad and pathetic .
Pretty shocked at this I have to say, they do seem to drop some right clangers thinking previous Brooklyn Bridge scandal.
This one though! They've gone down a route that virtually every social media outlet will castigate to gain a few customers who like shooting endangered species. It's really like 40 years behind modern society.
Just a note about watches celebrating the Luftwaffe etc. Yes there is an issue about celebrating war but we do need to remember that carpet bombing of cities was a horrendous blunt tool used by all sides (though first used by Germany during the Spanish civil war). One arguament around this does not justify the celebration of big 5 kills.
You could always use the watch for target practice.

Ignorance breeds Fear. Fear breeds Hatred. Hatred breeds Ignorance. Break the chain.
They are a luxury brand selling primarily to a luxury market and presumably there are plenty of customers out there who will buy them.
While I understand the distaste for the idea of hunting surely that should be for all forms of hunting not just specific animals?
Taking aside the moral issue here the craftsmanship of the cases looks superb. I am sure the price is pretty eye watering too.
No likey,no buyey

Seem's to be poor taste anything that promotes the shooting of endangered animals.
Just because the range depicts the big five doesn't mean that it's intended to depict them as targets. Appreciate that some may take this as implied by the fact that Purdey are involved.
Lots of companies have done collaborations with companies like Purdey. Holland and Holland have teamed up with Land Rover - would the OP refuse to buy any of their cars?
The biggest endangered species on the forum is 'people with taste':-)
Those particular Panerais are ugly watches for ugly people. The sad part is that there is clearly a market for this kind of tat......... mind you, you should see some of the scenes on custom Zippo lighters!
Would it stop me buying a Panerai? No, the standard designs (and the prices) do that for me
The whole Panerai brand is based around WW2 nostalgia marketing. Whilst I agree it's in completely in bad taste to celebrate and commemorate hunting wild animals, it's no worse than this...
At least they didn`t put it on an alligator strap..
