I have a store of leather - including some exotics - that I've been using for other items such as knife sheaths and phone covers, but this thread has got me thinking about giving a watch strap a go.

I was going to try the freehand method but was convinced there there must be another way, as the straps in this thread all look so amazingly professional!
If you're doing non tapered you can also use one of these widgets -

My wife got me my first commission for a strap (free of course, I just like to practice and other people's watches need different size straps to my watches). A colleague of hers fancied a new strap for his watch (he's not a watch freak like us bunch of weirdos) so my services were pushed forward.

The only request was that he'd prefer a black strap. So I made the following.

Horween Derby in black (face and lining)
Waxed linen in a darkish blue. Padded slightly and burnished edges.

I think it's a tonne better than his tatty old strap. When I drive past her office next I'll fit it for him with a single hole

That's lovely, and I like the idea of the single hole to fit.
