The MOD introduced the Seiko in 1984 so a 99 is way off. Never heard of one to be honest, 99 is the UK Nato code number. Have you got any photos?

One on my fellas at work has just dropped on a '99 CWC Chrono for £350.
At that price and age I am assuming not issued as guessing the run out date was sometime in the '80's.
Is that reasonable value??
An informed view of issue dates would be appreciated

As Silverman's are now selling the reissues at 1650 quid a pop, that is still a bargain.
We really need to see some pics to know what your mate has. Issued CWC chrono's were from 1973 - 1982 and none of the
issued batches included 99, the NATO code for UK. A later Ronda quartz chrono was around for a while, mostly identified with
the BAF ID, these had the 99 NATO number stamped.

Many thanks chaps the 99 is the year date stamp.
I will get some pics.

Hello
There is no date stamp on it
The 99 is the U.K. country I.D. in the NATO stock number
6645 is the NATO number for a watch
99 identifies the origin as the UK
The rest of the numbers relate to the watch type and manufacturer
As far as I am aware these were never issued to any armed force but were available to buy from silvermans.
Hope this helps
By way of comparison
I am wearing my G10 today.
W10 is an MOD marking given to watches issued to the army
As you can see the NATO stock number is similar with the number for watch (6645) and 99 meaning U.K.
The issue number is 5353 from 2006

Yes and many thanks for this.
I have had a few CWC's in the past and only have a Fat Boy left.
So, £350 is about the going rate given the age and want the new price is.
Many thanks
Not issued but great watches - I have the no-date version which gets an outing at least a couple of times per week. The date version isn't showing on the Silverman's website (discontinued?) but the no-date model is at 900 quid, so your friend's watch is still a good deal at 350.
Here is mine
Nice pic!

My cwc chrono below, I am lead to believe from my research that this was put forward to the MOD for consideration but was
not chosen and the seiko gen 1 chrono won the contract. The lume has a lovely colour!!

Could you post a side on view please? My issue with the PRS 5 has always been how unnecessarily thick it appears... These look lovely!
I think that the vintage reissue chronograph that recently sold on SC was a bargain.
My CWC Chronograph arrived yesterday, it is a very well built and stylish watch.
I don't see any of my other watches getting a look in for a while
