Should have been sacked for not being able to manage a player's position on the pitch.

At that level, it's always hard to work out what "quit" actually means - it generally means "take this money and go and let's drag it out, now sign these legal agreements".

An FA statement read: “The FA can confirm Sam Allardyce has left his position as England manager. Allardyce’s conduct, as reported today, was inappropriate of the England manager. He accepts he made a significant error of judgment and has apologised. However, due to the serious nature of his actions, the FA and Allardyce have mutually agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

“This is not a decision that was taken lightly but the FA’s priority is to protect the wider interests of the game and maintain the highest standards of conduct in football. The manager of the England men’s senior team is a position which must demonstrate strong leadership and show respect for the integrity of the game at all times.

“Gareth Southgate will take charge of the men’s senior team for the next four matches against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain while the FA begins its search for the new England manager. The FA wishes Sam well in the future.”

I'm glad the FA have taken immediate action.
What a complete and utter idiot he was. The England Managers job really should be a position of such prestige and honour, yet he does this. Surely he was earning an excellent 7 figure salary but just plain greedy.

And what I'll never get is when will they ******* learn???? Sven and the sheik gate, Hoddle and his comments, El Tel and the rumours etc etc. Surely the FA sat down with him and said 'look Sam you'll be targeted by every newspaper in the land so be extremely careful'!!!! I'm staggered this stupidity.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Dear oh dear, what a twit. Just gave one of the best jobs away for a few bob, relative to his salary. His stupidity is just unreal.

    'Rodney, you plonker...'

Good for England anyway, he was never going to work out for the long term. Wrong choice from the very beginning. You have to question the judgement of the FA Board. Off with their heads I say!

Might go back to The Hammers to fight the relegation battle unless Bilic gets the finger out.
He won't be short of offers come Christmas and the panicking starts.

Possibly the only England manager with a 100% record?

I`ve no strong views either way on what he's done, but I despise the press for their lack of morals, ethics and sense of honour. Typical underhand behaviour from slimeball journalists, they're all as bad. Wouldn`t trust any of them.

    An endemic problem with agents"

    John Motson
BBC commentator on BBC Radio 5 live
    Posted at 21:58
"I can't work out if I am shocked, disappointed or angry - or all three. We seems to have an endemic problem with agents and entourage. And what was Sam Allardyce doing meeting those guys after being made England manger?

"He should have been aware that he might have been a target for sting operation. I can't get my head around it and Sam had to go. Why did he have to touch any of that business when he is so well paid?"

    Well said Motty!!

What's now even worse is Sky Sports are reporting that his agent/manager advised him not to go to the second meeting at the restaurant as he was suspicious of their motives!

If that's true just shows what a greedy man he was.

    Greedy football "manager/player" shocker.

The only news is he got caught.

First thing, we have a gutter oress. If the are not hacking into dead girls phones they are setting up stings as fake sheiks and interested football parties.

The FA should have checks and balances in place for exactly this sort of thing.

I have no synpathies as it shows how pathetic the man is an how wayward hos moral compass, and that of the press is, I read a paragraph and thought oh well here we go again. Not even looked at his comments that he is alleged to have said but they really pale into insignificance when compared to how stupid he is.

Then he blames entrapment rather than his own greed.

After Sven, and now Sam, being England's manager I would fear to sit down with any stranger discussing even ordering my tea of choice :-D
Rewinding back to the Slovakia game - I really think it was an underserved win. In 2009 it was a smooth 4-0 win. That's how a national team should win with such a talented squad, league and infrastructure of bringing up young talents versus a second- or third tier national team.
Admirable performance from Slovakia's side, but since their (or Iceland's for that matter) whole infrastructure and team basis is far from England's, it should have been seen from the final score as well.
