I've obviously seen them with the square/rectangle date wheel, but a circle cut out (cut through the "3" numeral) would be a franken/modified watch one presumes? I ask as I've now seen two of them like this (one was dated 1988 if that makes any difference), and I'm intrigued.
There's an 87 issue on Ebay (item no 391541523271) included in a job lot of old watches - franken/modified is my guess too as have only ever seen the navigator with a rectangular window. CWCs have a date wheel but as you say somebody has probably just cut out a circle on the dial.
Well that's three then, and I'm assuming you're correct.
