    Dog-friendly pubs - Cotswolds/Oxford...

Having a long weekend at the end of September staying near Witney and looking for dog-friendly pubs for lunch on a Saturday and Sunday. Preferably not elbow to elbow in the touristy bits - and cheap(ish)!

Will do some Googling, but does anyone have any particular recommendations?

I don't know that area particularly well, but if you wanted to venture into Gloucester (the Quays are particularly pleasant) then many of the pubs and restaurants are dog friendly. The Portivo Lounge in the Quays also does the best club sandwich I've had in this country.

This is rather nice, I don't have a dog but, it is the Cotswolds and Everyman and his dog seems to have one . http://www.theswanswinbrook.co.uk/

Not sure how dog friendly it is (I think we did take a dog once but was in the summer and we sat outside) but the Nut Tree Inn in Murcott (between Oxford and Bicester) is the best pub I went to having lived in the area for 6 years and one of the best full stop. Not cheap but not too expensive and excellent food. Good if you want a trip to Bicester Village although they don't like dogs there IIRC.

Witneys a bit duelling banjos, this is just down the road

there's a lovely walk around the ruins by the church, the river windrush [I photographed a band in the river itself there]

plus the village is like something from a Disney film.

And you'd have to join first, or go with an existing member...

It's not actually very expensive to eat there, unless you're factoring in the £1,200 membership fee

    The Lamb Inn, Burford.

It's dog friendly and Burford is a lovely place. I don't think it could be described as cheap but it is superb. You get what you pay for.

Love the duelling banjo's analogy, and thanks for the recommendation. Cottage is in Curbridge. Doesn't look too bad from Google Earth!

...and many thanks to all - it's much appreciated. Just hope the weather is friendly along with the natives...

they do very good food Spinki the owner is one hell of a character he works 26 hours a day.

runs a consultancy business, runs the venue and restaurant and plays in at least 3 groups not sure about dogs though, but could be somewhere for a nightime visit

Curbride is OK,you will see aircraft landing at Brize, you have the wildlife park nearby lots to see and do.

just a warning that A40 towards Oxford is a nightmare for traffic queues, I often detour and use the Swinford toll bridge just before Cassington [its also more scenic].

Just head to Burford and take your pick. Cotswolds Arms is my local if i go out.

Dogs can go round the Wildlife Park too.. and you may spot this particular watch fan doing as little as possible around the place.
