Best Watch to complement a Vintage DJ

    Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a vintage DJ 36mm and I am already thinking about what my next purchase is going to be (wish I had a brain lol).

Anyways, What are your views on a watch that best complements a DJ . I was thinking getting one of the Rolex sports Model (GMT, Sub) particularly the bi-metal Sub which has grown on me recently.

However, I also feel given I have already got a Rolex, should I diversify a bit and purchase a different brand like JLC, Blancpain, IWC. In the JLC range, I am particularly drawn towards a Reverso, I feel its timeless and extremely classy.

I am contemplating a healthy budget of between 4-6k for the next purchase.

Understand the above is a lot to digest and reflects my choices which are very undefined for the time being. Nonetheless, I would love to hear your views.

    Many Thanks,
    Owais

I have a 114270 (Explorer 1 36mm). My next purchase is likely to be a 36mm DJ. In those two watches you have everything you need so I'd suggest the best 36mm Explorer you can get your hands on. I paid £3.1k for a mint 114270 recently so you'll be well within budget.

Unless you're going to wear both at the time time, why does your next watch have to complement a current one?

As you've got a dress watch I'd go for a Sub or SD. Saying that. I have a GMT 2c which is a wonderful watch and would thoroughly recommend!

Yes I'd second the 4K if you can find one in budget.

With that budget? Go for contrast. Buy a Damasko DC56, and order a Dornbluth 99.1.

The title of this one made me picture the hairy cornflake watch shopping.

Diversifying is overrated. These more-watch-nerdy choices just don't ever seem to get worn, nor do the Omegæ, Sinns or others:

In fact, I got rid of the Reverso a few years ago to go for more stainless Rolex and haven't missed it a bit. If you want a sports Rolex, then just get one and don't worry about the other stuff. They're fantastic.

It sounds like you could go in two directions - either something on leather that's dressier than the DJ, or something sportier and perhaps a bit larger than the DJ, maybe a diver. With that budget, you should be able to get something pretty special - you're into 'interesting' Sub territory. An older Explorer II would also compliment the DJ and leave you with a lot of change.

Would a 2t sub or got not be a bit too dressy, although I reckon they are stunning and love wearing mine although not very often.

So no-one with Omegas or Sinns or JLCs ever wears them?

    What a bizarre comment.

Not everyone thinks the world begins and ends with Rolex...

Apologies to the OP for momentarily hijacking the thread, but some comments just can't go unremarked..

Regrets about the misunderstanding; I'm referring to my own experience concerning what actually gets worn among my available choices.

While the non-Rolex options are nice to have, they rarely end up on the wrist for me.

I thought that you were referring to a Dinner Jacket and was looking forward to reading people's suggestions.
    Dissapointed.

If you want Rolex I guess a Sub would be best...in my opinion.

Personally I would go with something different. Perhaps a MM1000

Then the misunderstanding was mine, and I apologise :)
