Hello guys,
The other day I had a look at a 5513, I think, with a dial with an underlined PERpetual and pointed crown guard.
Is this so uncommon? The guy was quoting a crazy price for it...
I've tried an Internet search but I can't find some definitive information.
Thank you.
Well, the underline can appear in different places and the one I've shown isn't just an underline (trying to avoid husky M&S advert voice) but an underline with double SWISS marking, making it even rarer.
They don't really have a name, simply "underline" --- or "high underline" / "low underline" I have seen. Those with the duplicated SWISS text are universally called "Double SWISS."
One of my favourites, this one with Americas Cup history.
As to value, GBP20k might be an acceptable price or a horrific price for a gilt dial with underline, but it's impossible to say without seeing it.

Thank you very much. I've heard of a lot of dials but never the underline ones. I doubt I'll get a picture anytime soon but if I do I'll post it. Just for curiosity really, don't have the time, inclination or knowledge to step into the vintage Rolex minefield :-).
Thank you again
The guy even on holiday picks up his messages...
I think they are phone screenshots from his email
Nice example?
When he gets someone other than Stevie Wonder to photograph it, we'll be able to tell!
A nice macro photo of the dial please....

FWIW I think you may be best leaving this one. Would still like to see better pics....it's not difficult, when someone actually wants to sell a five figure watch rather than disguise one as such that is not.
Amazing that he can get some shots sharp as anything, but not those which --- since he has set that value --- he must know are the vital ones. Always a bit stinky.

I have no intention whatsoever to buy it. I'm trying to judge the seller. Thank you anyway.
You see this on eBay lots - always rings alarm bells!
Haywood, what's the story with the "double Swiss" - is it a print design error that both paint application passes had a Swiss on them, or was it a transitional thing between the passes, or something else? Does seem really odd....
