    Jim Beam - Maple

    Anyone else enjoying this?
Sounds crazy, but this stuff is wonderful. The aroma is amazing too!
There is also Honey, which the Mrs prefers, or Apple which I don't fancy.

    Maple Bourbon - it's a taste sensation

I've not had a bottle of bourbon in the house for a long time, but that sound very nice. Love the flavour of maple. Might just have to give that a try.

Cheapest that I have seen it is £13 for 70cl on Amazon.
It is more frequently around the £17 price range on there, which is still incredibly good.

Not tried that but I do have a bottle of JD honey, but my favourite at the minute is JD fire with a hint of cinnamon

Tried it, hated it, just not to my tastes.

    JD honey is much better.

Yes, lovely tipple although a bit sweet to hit too hard

The cinnamon JD shouldn't work either but I like that even more.

The JD Maple, and JD Honey have just gone on Special Offer on Amazon.
    £13 each for 70cl.

Not had much joy finding Cinnamon or Fire though.

I've not tried the honey variant, but I have the cherry and apple both in the drinks cupboard. The cherry with cola is as you'd guess, like cherry cola.
The apple is nice with lemonade. I'm sure there's a few here who must think I'm mad mixing it but I just can't do straight.

This is just a natural progression throughout the market: taking drinks and adding sugar / fruit flavours.

It started with Two Dogs / Hooch etc in the nineties, and progressed through WKD, into Sourz / After Shock Fireball, that phase of flavoured vodkas (when bars used to dump sweets, chocolate, chili, etc in bottles) and then into the more recent trend for flavoured ciders, wines and even whiskies.

If it sells more bottles to non-traditional markets, I guess it's good for the brands. But I blanch at these being described as infused whiskies. Or in anyway compared to the real thing. It's a bit like comparing Plymouth Sloe Gin to Plymouth Gin. Makes no sense. It's a different drink - a 70 proof liqueur not 80 plus whisk(e)y, with added sugar, colourings and flavourings.

In one way, these cut out a step in the making of cocktails (replacing the step of adding, for example, maple syrup to a Maple Manhattan). But I think this is false economy, and fails almost universally in terms of flavour. I'd still rather take a good quality bourbon, and add my own vermouth and spoon of decent maple syrup.

EDIT: Isn't this just Drambuie for those with short memories?

    Bah humbug.

    Probably.

**of course, there are flavoured spirits that I actually like: Chase Smoked Vodka, for example. But that's the exception, not the rule.

Jim Beam offer still there however.

I crumbled earlier and picked up a bottle of JB Honey as it was there on the shelf calling to me. No Maple available, but might get hold of one fromAmazon. Just sampling the honey now and it is really rather nice. Sweet and a little bit syrupy, almost liqueur like, but most agreeable.

Wait until you try the Maple.
More sweet and sticky - fantastic stuff
You just can't go wrong at £13 a bottle.

I will indeed try it soon. For now though I've already had rather more of the honey version than I perhaps should have. It's too easy to drink. Really should save some for another night.....

That's because it *is* a liqueur.

Whatever it is it tastes good!

The honey version is described as 'infused bourbon', whereas the other is labelled as 'maple liqueur'. I'm imagining they are made in much the same way.

Indeed. Add sugar (or high fructose corn syrup or any other sweetener), flavourings (natural or naturally-derived) and colourings (caramel or whatever else comes to hand) to whiskey / bourbon, bring down the ABV and bottle. I can see why they are so popular.

    What flavours do they stock?

Last time I looked on Amazon, only the Apple remained at £13. Not tried that one!

Absolutely no idea. I literally had a Tesco's ad on the screen that said it was reduced to £13.00.

    I don't drink the stuff, I'm afraid.

The Maple is okay but perhaps a little too sweet. The apple is much better :-) In fact another 2 bottles now ordered from the Brazilian shop.

The Maple is sweet I didn't take much convincing, but now ordered an Apple to try!

I think I might have gone wrong with using the JB Honey as the mixer to go with the Maple. Epic fail.....
