Brilliant! Looking forward to some new stuff! The Office, Spaced and Peep Show. Modern British comedy at its finest.

I caught a few episodes of the original 'The Office' last week on Gold and it really made me chuckle. I think it was a little over-exposed back in the day, but a repeat viewing after a few years was really worthwhile. A genuinely funny show, Gervais got a bit full of himself afterwards but frankly who wouldn't going from zero to comedy hero like that?! - really looking forward to this 😁

Looks funny, I do like a bit of Brent!

Watching it made me think that Brent is pretty much his only decent character and beside Extrsa (and he was fairly Brent-ish in that!) he hasnt done much worth worrying about. Made him fairly wealthy though I suppose!

I really liked Extras. He was much more likeable in that than Brent.

Brent, though, is probably his most brilliant creation - He's horribly awkward, but I'm sure everyone knows someone exactly like him in some respect! (Some more than others!).

Excellent! I love the reference to Whitley Wood at the start. Something for those of us in the Reading area to appreciate.

Certainly do, I worked out of an office in the Social Services building along Northumberland Avenue for 6 years

The speed at which I needed to cycle to and from work in order to maintain my personal safety certainly kept me fit

Went to see Life on the Road on Saturday evening. Possibly one of the funniest things I have ever seen, some proper toe-curling moments (the song titled "please don't make fun of the disabled" not even being the worst of them).

    Well worth a watch.

Haven't watched the film yet, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it - I know he's marmite, but I'm a big fan of RG.

Listened to the album though, and tbh I'm a little non-plussed. It is certainly amusing in parts, but I don't think it's that funny, nor is the music particularly good (or even ironically amusing). Normally you need either very funny lyrics with average music, quite amusing lyrics to great music, or ideally both best of both. I don't the David Brent stuff is particularly either. (I accept it's part of the film primarily, and best not overly judged on its own merits).

I prefer something like Goldie Lookin Chain - I know it's a bit juvenile, but it has me laughing out loud, and the original tunes are very good.

(Honourable mention to The Macc Lads if anyone remembers them - as 18 year old students, we found them unbelievably hilarious, and they could bang out some great tunes).

    The Macc lads??

All I remember is outright obscenity and casual racism.

    Gordon's revenge????????

I couldn't get into The Office when it originally aired, and tried again shortly afterwards on DVD and found it too excruciating to enjoy. I picked it up cheap on iTunes last week to give it another go and have finally got it, frequently laughing out loud. I note [i]Life on the Road[i] has received pretty poor reviews, however, but then it's a fine British tradition that all sitcom spinoff movies are sh*t.

I don't think I was very PC at the age of 17/18 - they frequently overstepped the mark, but "beer, beer, we want more beer" became a bit of an anthem. (Me and me friends were certainly not very sophisticated at that age).

Middle-class lads from Cheshire apparently, so it was really a kind of parody/class-tourism/ironic joke that took on a life of its own, if people who knew them are to be believed.

Obviously, I don't think I'd listen to them now though.

Yep. The band is made up of 'real' musicians (i.e. have been in bands before) but none of them made it as far as Burrows did with Razorlight.

It is strange how a 30 min sitcom doesn't translate to a 90 min movie.

I'd add The Inbetweeners - both film versions were pretty good (if not half as funny as the series), and Alpha Papa (which again was OK, but not brilliant).
