    Glashutte Nomos Sundial

Any pointers for a UK purchase - Google is not hugely helpful?

    Glashutte Nomos Sundial

No worries but to fit with the theme this evening on Watch Talk I feel we need some name calling and hair pulling.
I therefore question your parentage and challenge you to a duel

It doesn't work in the UK. I have one and it's hopeless.

Buy it as a piece of jewellery or as a novelty but don't expect to tell the time with it. It only works in Glashütte and you can't compensate by adding hours on or taking them off or changing the months - you may as well just guess what time it is based upon your own observation of the angle of the sun.

I thought there was something about buying for the time zone you are in or is there just not enough sun for it to work ?

What on earth made you think I was looking for one as a timepiece?

Bet you wish you'd purchased the one calibrated for London GMT now don't you?

Mine was a gift and had been purchased in Germany.

Attempts to compensate by adding or taking away hours don't work as the difference is not consistent throughout the day.

It's a nicely made object but rarely tells the time.

If anyone has any pictures of this I would really appreciate a picture or two. I'm thinking about buying one as a gift but would like to know if it nice in the metal. I'm in London and they don't seem to have any locally so would be buying off the Nomos website.

I thought about buying the Nomos sundial years ago, but never went through and got one. It's an old concept, based on a farmer's ring, which sounds dodgy, but isn't.

How much are are they going for nowadays?

It's £128 for the stainless one and £218 for the gold. I would go for the stainless one as a birthday gift.

I got one a couple of years ago from Nomos website. I thought I might wear it on a sun holiday.
However it's been out of it's box twice I think, I have no idea how I could tell the time with it, and it's just a bit bulky to wear around my neck (I may just be too scrawny though)

If the latitude is the same adding/taking away hours should work.
