The Speedbird never really appealed but recently the SBIII is growing on me especially on the bracelet, so much so I might have a punt the next time one appears on SC.

They don't come up very often but I've had success through posting a wtb, both times having been offered more than one.

I ended up buying from the same seller twice!

    Go for it!

I have learnt my lesson though so won't be in the market for another (assuming you haven't learnt).

Unless of course it's one of the chronographs!

What sort of price would a Speedbird 1 command these days?

Wouldn't mind adding one to the collection.

^^^They aren't as pricey as I'd expect for a watch that had a limited run, has been out of production for some time and is reasonably sought after.

I bought and sold one a year or two ago for around £400, I think. It may have been a bit less.

    **********************

Ha ha! just checked and I sold it for £275, and that was just after a costly service. Clearly I was undergoing an idiotic episode.

Servicing then selling cheap. Sounds familiar, I never learn either.

I suspect even at £400 it wouldn't last an hour on SC.

Cream, as they say, rises to the surface.

Love the Speedbird, takes some beating for the price. If ever I get back in the situation of buying instead of selling this will be top of my list I think(if they're still available). Great photos everyone.

The PRS-29 is a good alternative for the time being :-)

I've been playing with the eBay timing machine this week and decided to regulate my Speedbird. It was running -9 sec/day dial down with very little positional variation, good amplitude and beat error.

    Looking better.

Almost no variation between positions - the TOP grade 2824 is certainly a precision instrument!

The movement shield has a machined register that slots perfectly into the movement spacer.

The assembly is held in together by a spring inside the caseback.

I usually leave it dial up at night...

And I'm on my feet all day (crown down) - so far on the wrist it hasn't lost or gained anything.

    Pleased with the result.

Looks good, I'm normally a bracelet man but I think I might have a change and treat myself to something like that.

It has been very good, fraction under a couple of seconds a day. Hardly been off my wrist since I got it from you.

Quite fancy a Kingston now to accompany it.
