Quite possibly.
But as an aside your thread title made me laugh out loud as an LSD fuelled statement.
Right
Some people here will have them
I need to have a raised manhole cover levelled as part of the job
I've been quoted an eye watering £2700 for what is in real terms a small front lawn
(Think fairly new housing estate)
Does anybody else have price input or explain how so expensive?
Lift the old turf and dump
Drop the manhole cover
Level ground
"Underlay"
Lay new grass?
Am I off my head?
Quite possibly.

I've been quoted about £3.5k for 50 square metres including removal of a large shed and the large slab of concrete it currently sits on.
That was the cheaper of two quotes I've had so far too.
As I understand it there is also digging down, adding a layer of hardcore, then sand, levelling it off before installing the new artificial grass. Quite labour intensive but I was also not expecting such a high cost.
I'm going to get a third quote but my wife is keen to get it done so I've mentally prepared myself to part with the cash!
I did Consider this myself last year, the prices are pretty high for the good quality Synthetic and they recommend that you change the underlay every few years too.
I was also concerned about potential cat excrement and missing the sweet smell of freshly cut grass, so I decided to buy a cat alarm and new mower instead.
I'm going to look at a price for having it returfed
The man hole cover is unsightly as sits proud on a bulge of concrete
Ruins the lawn
I'm told it's an easy job to get it levelled off?
Go ahead with the fake lawn - best thing we ever did! It's not just the appearance; remember it also means no mowing the lawn, never muddy, great for kids, etc.
My only advice would be choose the grass carefully. We found the most expensive grass wasn't the most realistic looking, which saved us over £500. Quality fitting is important, especially if they have to join rolls.
Sounds good to me - far better the wall plugs
Had my front and back done last year (3 small lawns) and paid 3k for 60 square metres but had quite an expensive turf from tiger turf - they send you free samples and yes, my wife, chose the most expensive. Excellent job though and the relatively permanent quality of the presentation combined with the minimal maintenance is already proving money well spent. Weeds do continue to grow though when they take root in the sand but you can pull them out easy as. I can also use weed killer without any worry too. I would certainly recommend serious consideration. 😉
The best grass itself is about £20 sq/m on its own, then you need the same prep as any paving project first. Depending where you live and what you are starting with, that could be another £10-20 sq/m. Its really an alternative to hard surface, but nearly as much work to lay. Hence the price.
We have had about 50sq/m of it down 3 years now. Its fantastic, virtually nil maintenance, and usable all year round. Sold the lawnmower and dont intend to own another ;)
Beware - they can be stolen.
Just sayin'

Very happy with my fake lawn.
And the fake grass bin store...

Does it talk or does it whisper?
I am really tempted by this as the back gets little sun in the corner and we spend all summer making it look nice and in winter it just goes back to moss, very annoying. We looked at some nice stuff just in b and Q which was around 20m2 not the most expensive but the expensive ones looked to green. Think we will save up and have it done as gardening is not really my thing but then spending 3-4k is not either!!
"What do you reckon, Rodney? Do you prefer grass or AstroTurf?"
"I dunno, I've never smoked AstroTurf."
Please note it's not totally maintenance free either. Ask the contractor or better still the vendor of the product.
I've seen a few people who have them, and it does look a bit "greengrocer".
That said if you have young kids (as all the people who have fake lawns I have seen have) they make a lot of sense.
They can play out in the garden all year round without getting covered in mud or ruin a proper lawn.
I wonder what the effect could be on a house sale?
TBH I wouldn't like to buy a place with a fake lawn but it may be a selling point?
Cheers,
Neil.
The good stuff looks very real and also feels nice, the cheap stuff doesn't
It's really that simple
Had our small garden done for £2300 a couple of months ago. One of the best things we've done.
Got 5 dogs and the mud being brought in was doing my head in.
The chaps who did mine weren't the cheapest but came recommended.
Dug out, hardcore, sand and membrane. Staked the turf down and edged.
Didn't look too much at different samples but of the 3 we had theirs was the best.
Wished we'd done it before.
Oh dear, what is TZ coming to?
Next thing you'll all start saying you prefer your beer cold.
We've done it on coupel of small gardens in previous houses. Advice would be to get lots and lots of samples. The middle price one's seemed to be the most realistic.
The idea of fake grass really turns me off. So much in our lives is fake already, that I'd miss the presence of real, living, growing plants. I understand the practical arguments, but one might just as well say that a fake watch is more practical (and cheaper) than the real thing. It may well be true. I like real things, that's all.
There is nothing that evokes Spring more than the distant thrum of a 4 stroke lawn mower engine of a sunny evening...
I love mowing grass, a sign that the weather has turned and an excuse to buy a petrol powered toy.

I have a lovely real lawn and a gardener.
Cheaper than AstroTurf and looks jolly nice.
Yeah … get a plastic lawn and put some plastic birds on it too. People who have plastic lawns are likely totally ignorant of how important natural habitats are for declining garden bird species e.g. starlings and sparrows. Plant a few shrubs and enjoy them.

"Well they would say that ... wouldn't they!"
Next door have a fake rear lawn. They have two dogs and they were fed up of muddy paws. Their new lawn looks like a minefield of shit and am sure the dogs are now walking in with shitty paws rather than muddy paws.

Anyone care to explain what is so difficult about "grass" in the garden!.
Yes it needs to be cut,but get up of yer ass on a weekend and do something in the garden ffs.
Amazing how some watch collectors who would probably cringe at the thought of acquiring a fake Rolex, fake Omega or fake Panerai find it acceptable to have fake grass on their property.

I'm considering this, as I have hay fever. Cutting grass would be a pain for me.
