Looks like the "Naked Man" will be doing even better business then.
Ooh, it's going to be grand in Settle marketplace tomorrow, with the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race finishing here.
I said to me mam, ' It'll be a sight for sore eyes, all those lovely bronzed boys with their chunky thighs and those lovely jerseys promoting holidays in Holland and Russian businesses. I'd just love to have a mingle, mam'.
She said 'As far as I can see, with their shaved legs and make up, sun protection they call it, they seem to be a big bunch of pansies and Nancy boys our Alan. I think you'd be better off down cemetery putting some tulips on our Dad's grave.'
She might be right; it doesn't seem the same since Eddy wore that jersey promoting those big Molteni sausages back when I was all up for it in Europe.

I'm at the start in Beverley and it's peeing down. Good luck to them
I haven't been in Beverly for years. Must look her up again! :)
To be mildly serious for a moment, what is this obsession with (part) black team colours in pro cycling?
Not only does it mean it is more difficult to identify riders, but it must do less for the team sponsors' visibility too.
The same applies to F1 teams too (except for Ferrari, thankfully now Renault, and Sauber). Just take a look at a photo of an F1 race or a Tour de France stage from the 1980s and the colours are dazzling in comparison.
Also the 'black gear' theme for road cyclists, commuters particularly, renders them almost invisible during the winter months (which includes April up here .)
Ah, now I see why Derick has been so animated over the past week. Off to do some camping up there for some quiet country rambles? Now I get the picture.

Do you collect this sort of thing?
You can understand why black shorts were mandatory for so long. Famously Mario Cipollini (who never intended to finish a Tour) was disqualified for wearing matching jersey and shorts.
I understand that team radio is banned in some races; is the second pic some kind of semaphore?

Weather's been bloody awful for this event; only one thing worse than cycling in crappy weather.......that's standing around watching people cycle!
Cycling's not my thing but owing to the poor weather I feel some sympathy for everyone involved today.

Well I did have a mingle at the finish in Settle market place, and I think me mam may be right - the rider who came in sixth was called Floris Gerts.
I ask you? Floris. Gerts. I couldn't see if he'd shaved his legs though, as he was wearing Max Wall tights.
'Introducing Floris Gerts as Professor Wallofski'. Well mam and me didn't half laugh at that one.

The signs warning of road closures tomorrow are up in East Keswick. My friend uploaded some great pics earlier of the tour
