Interesting - mental note made. I think JM is an excellent presenter for this sort of stuff - Cars of the People for example.
Just a trailer - I need to watch this program!

I've reassembled a Stratocaster a couple of times; don't think I'd risk the lawnmower though.
when is it on
My kind of programme. Hope to catch it :-)
when :-)
Thank goodness I'm not the only one
When?
I'll be looking out for that.
Can't think the Strat reassembly will take that long though.
Cheers,
Neil.
Fret replacement involves hammer(s), snips, files as it comes as a wire which you cut down. The electrics for the Strat are on the plate but obviously other guitars eg Les Paul the electrics are in the body cavity accessed from the back and I'm not sure about semi electrics eg 335/345
First engine I ever rebuilt was from a lawnmower like that one. My old man gave it to me to give me something to do while I hung out with him in the garage when I was about 8 or 9. I never bothered with lego or meccano.
Did anyone watch it? Suffolk Punch lawnmower.
I’m a bit unsure about it. The format doesn’t work particularly well. It’s very light on detail, and very heavy on James May waffling away. Yet I am not sure if the subject would have withstood a longer programme.
I`m one of those dudes who cannot help themselves taking stuff apart - i need to know what is inside and how it works .
I take stuff apart that isn`t meant to be taken apart, sometimes i can put it back together again.
Sometimes i get hold of stuff that other people have taken apart and i get to re-assemble it (mainly motorbicycles these days).
When i was younger i was always taking stuff apart, whenever i got something new i took it apart - radios, fishing reels, watches - i took it apart.
You`d often hear my mums exclamation to my dad ringing through the house, `Bob, he`s got the back off it already`!!
I`ll be watching this - if i can get the telly working again...
I watched the lawnmower episode on iPlayer last night - the most brilliant boring programme i've ever watched :)
I've just flipped over to this now (he's currently reassembling an old phone).
How many crew members does it take to film this show? There must be about 5 of them in here with him. How bored must they be?!
A couple of years ago I sold a classic car to a guy very similar to May. He gave me chapter and verse about my car (total anorac) and rang me several times after he got home with it, to the point that I had to block his calls, as I was nearing meltdown and the mere reminder of him is sending me into meltdown again...... Aaaaaaaaargh!
I shan't be watching the May things! :)
I just watched the lawn mower in iplayer and confess that I fell asleep in the middle. He was a bit grumpy in it, wasn't he? As Clarkson would say, boring, boring, boring. Shame.
Unexpectedly, I am finding the telephone one marginally more interesting. Still, I don’t think we’ll see a second series.
Also - the bottom half of his beard is missing.
Looks really interesting, I'll have to try and find it on catch-up
Thanks for posting Op
watched the one on the 1950's telephone last night,i rather enjoyed it,but as old codgers do i fell asleep before the end..
Watched the lawnmower one last night.
Boring old rubbish from a very boring presenter.
I took umbrage to start with when he simply said 37 minutes or something to assemble the valves and tappets but actually didn't do it (I doubt he did much of it off his own back anyway).
He is obviously not as knowledgeable as he thinks he is if he thinks gudgeon pins just slide in. Took a while to use a mallet on it.
Then at the end he started the lawnmower without putting any oil in the sump.
I shall look out for the Fender Strat one just for more laughs TBH.
Cheers,
Neil.
Don't think this series is going to be one of May's best efforts. Hardly rivetting TV - old bloke puts together old lawnmower. Bit like a long version of the potter's wheel interlude. Would have been more interesting if we'd been treated to a little more history and a little less waffle.
I actually quite enjoyed the first two episodes, they were a bit tough in cheek, but the humour along the way was good, a little surreal viewing, but I think I get it.
I watched the telephone one last night, it seemed slightly less boring than the lawnmower one - but only just. I don't feel it's on a par with the other stuff he's done in the past. His style seems to get drier and drier, and he just looks knackered these days (constant jet lag?)
The show does however offer a new take on an old gag.........how many people does it take to film someone assembling something!
a bit narcolepsy inducing in places but i'd love to see him reassemble an IWC perpetual calendar...
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, snuffle snuffle, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
I have absolutely no interest in watching any of this series, but for some reason I am glad that it exists.
Given the title of the programme just what were folk expecting?
If the Beeb can get away with sticking a camera on the front of a canal boat for two hours then this May vehicle could be considered fast paced & snappy programming
I'm intrigued as to who was responsible for disassembling the kit and laying out the parts ever so neatly - bet that took longer !
I won't be watching the strat one too much like my day job !
I know May is popular but this was mind numbingly boring, a complete waste of licence payers money,
The sort of program you find on Quest.
Watched the lawnmower episode last night and quite enjoyed it actually. If anything I felt it skimped on detail a bit certainly for the engine rebuild.. would have been happy for the show to be an hour or so long instead of 30 minutes.
Honestly the more factual programmes we can have versus utter garbage like 'The Only Way is Essex' or 'X Factor' then I'm all for it.
Had to do a bit of plumbing myself the weekend and couldn't help keep chuckling to myself about one of his lines.......
"The adjustable spanner............. The tool of the charlatan"
I must be getting really old.
