    magnetic bracelet

    Hi

Quick question and I hope I'm OK in posting here!

    I wear a Seiko Auto Divers SKX013.

Would it harm my watch if I wore a magnetic (Bioflo) bracelet on the opposite wrist?

Probably resists up to 4,800 A/m, so has some resistance but without knowing the strength of the magnet its hard to say.

I'd personally ditch the bracelet. Magnetic therapy is a complete sham in any case, and all it will do is be a constant risk to your watch.

Probably ok - as long as you don't get the magnet too close to your watch - careful if you do take your bioflo magnet off not to place too close to the watch. You may prefer to wear an ankle magnet instead - which is what my wife wears.

    Hope that helps.

Should prevent scale building up in the arterys.

No, you're thinking of sleeping inside a pyramid.

This will be fine, but be sure to keep your arms extended so maximise distance between the watch and the bracelet.

Making an aeroplane sound and running in circles can further negate magnetic transmission risks.

Oh, there are some hilarious rascals on here today...

If it helps, I wear a magnetic silver bracelet on my right wrist and any one of my watches on my left wrist - I have never had a problem.

Your personal opinion, presented as fact.

So you're saying that you have supporting evidence that wearing magnets has any beneficial effect whatsoever on health?

If so, send it to The Lancet immediately; that would be unprecedented! Because right now there's a reason no legitimate medical practitioner has anything to do with this stuff. :)

Their sales pitch does sound pretty legit, though:

Where did I say that? I have merely said that I wear one. I made no claims about medical or scientific evidence. What I choose to wear is up to me and my reasons are my own. I neither need nor seek your approval...

Living up to your username, I see...

Look out for those MRIs, then. ;)

Nothing personal; I'm just not a fan of pseudo-scientific scams such as these silly magnets, which alone are unfortunately a billion-dollar-a-year industry.

The point is that silver isn't magnetic.

If it's the bracelets I've seen - they have magnets built into a silver bracelet.

Magnetic bracelets primarily prey on the theory that it increases bloodflow due to the iron in the blood. Of course according to that theory, we'd all be fleshy colanders any time we went for an MRI.

Its pseudo science. Snake oil. A liberal Texan. A white whale.

My brother smashed an elbow years ago and wears one of these on his right wrist. He swears it works. He also has a collection of auto watches and none of them have become magnetised - so I'd suggest you will be fine.

That's fine for him, but it's poor scientific method. Unless he smashed the other elbow too as a control, I'm going to suggest he just got better naturally, without the aid of magnetism.

I'm pretty sure we all understand your point of view. I'm just not sure that anybody really cares. It's boring and repetitive.

For what it's worth, I think it sounds like rubbish too - but he smashed it skydiving, suffered pain when he had to subsequently have excess bone 'shaved' away from the joint - and was advised by his surgeon that 'some of my patients say magnetic bracelets help so you can give it a try if you like' - so he did and apparently it helps. I would say he's normally pretty sensible - but he does throw himself out of planes regularly so perhaps not all that sensible!
