Very noble of them indeed to decide to change their policy to comply with the law.

I wouldn't have even waited for deller at this stage and I stll don't trust him to put it right.

I would get cc to sort it and then cancel card ( this joker has your details over the phone).

Hope it works out for you, OP. As for the dealer one has to wonder if has considered the damage to his reputation and the effect on future sales? Obviously anyone who has read this thread will think twice about doing business with them. I figure a quick refund would have been the sensible thing to do since it certainly wasn't a frivolous claim or case of buyer's remorse.

    Time for an update guys.

Got my money back in full today and had a good chat with John and Ethan at UKSW.

All I can say is that we are ending this on an amicable note and they aren't bad guys.

Thanks for all your input on the matter, very much appreciated.

I'm very pleased to hear that this matter has been sorted to your satisfaction, and that you've got your money back. Shame that there appeared to be so much hassle along the way.

Sadly it may well have taken a post here to get the result, which is great news and I'm glad you got it sorted but it's not a particularly redememing feature of their business ethics, enough for me to steer clear.

Good result, pity it took a thread here to prompt it, I wouldn't deal with them for this reason.

"and they aren't bad guys", well this thread has led me to believe the opposite and I certainly will never deal with them.

Glad you got resolution on you're issue though.

Expert opinion on this Rolex dial and where do I stand now?

Just read this thread in its entirety. Shocking customer service, but I'm very pleased it sounds as if you are getting your refund.
The lume job was bad, but clearly your consumer rights meant a refund should be obtainable within 14 days regardless of that fact.
I'll be avoiding these guys like the plague. It's so foolish on their behalf, how many have read this thread? That's the number of lost potential customers.

Glad it was sorted to your satisfaction. As many have said, it is unfortunate that it possibly took this thread to get the wheels moving but it has opened many people's eyes to questionable practises there and will be avoiding in future. Cheers.

They may not be 'bad guys' but to me they have very limited knowledge about vintage Rolex which when you are buying vintage you are paying for that knowledge, this coupled with poor service puts them firmly on my 'avoid' list!

Glad it's sorted for you, though do feel their customer service is reprehensible. Is there any value to editing the thread title to include their name to aid future buyers searching for feedback?

Hmm.. reading through the thread think the dealer leaves this with zero credit to his name.

Glad OP got the right resolution however.

Glad to hear that you got your money back, what a nightmare situation. Hopefully the dealer will learn from their mistakes and make some serious improvements of the way they do business... I think when it comes to Rolex until I learn inside out on absolutely everything what's there to know about them, I would only buy directly from the Bond Street boutique or a reputable AD... The risks are just too high from reading the horror stories people have had.

Prob fair to say this thread helped you and you may still be lumped with the watch otherwise!

I know its easy to forgive and forget now you have been refunded but if your story is 100% true then this thread should remain for other potential customers to decide!

Fair play for not deleting this thread. Too many dangers involved with dealing with this seller, the community here should be aware of that. It'll be a shame if that's the only reason they issued the refund.

For them, yes. But if they don't want complaints about them on the Internet, they should fix their customer service, not the Internet.

I guarantee the lugs have not been scratched ( used sellotape over lugs when changing strap) and that the watch is in exactly the condition I received
It but he will not accept it back under any circumstances.

I paid by credit card and have spoken to the CC company about a dispute.

The date wheel is fine it's just a funny picture.

It's been causing me no end of stress for the last week or so, knowing I'm not the one in the wrong makes me feel so much better.

I gave him lots and lots of chances to rectify the situation but he just wouldn't accept that the dial had been relumed, I fact he wouldn't even consider it.

Hopefully he will read this and maybe reconsider his options.

    Hi guys,

Looking for a little bit of advice if possible, please bear with me :)

I purchased what seemed like a very nice 1675 GMT from John at UK SPECIALIST WATCHES (www.ukspecialistwatches.co.uk) but since I received the watch its been a bit of a rollercoaster to say the least.

Now, I have been looking for a 1675 for a good few months now but I am far from any kind of vintage Rolex expert.

I spoke to John's assistant before xmas regarding a 5513(after struggling to find a GMT) but after some deliberation I decided to stick to my guns and hold out for the right GMT to come along.

So it seemed like fate when I was contacted by UK SPECIALST WATCHES late Jan 2016 saying they had taken a 1675 GMT into stock and would I be interested in some pics. I was pretty excited as in the pictures at least it seemed very, very good, the only concern I had was over the slightly puffy lume plots.

I spoke to John over the phone on 3 occasions and asked about said lume plots, he stated that the dial hadn't been relumed and infact was perfect. (he actually stated it was impossible to re-lume vintage Rolexs)

So, to cut a long story short I completed the purchase and the watch was sent RMSD on Friday the 22nd of January. Upon receiving the watch I was immediately suspiscious of the lume, looking very wobbly in real life, so much so that I called John after having the watch for ten minutes and again asked if the dial had been relumed? Again his answer was no and infact that this watch is one of the best dials he has ever seen. Taking his expert opinion on board I said I would take a few hours to consider the dial and call him back. After a few hours of inspecting the watch I decided that I was happy with it, trusting his opinion. I emailed him stating that I was happy with it and id call him on Monday 25th of January to arrange a free service that he had kindly offered.

Over the next few days my suspicions about the dial just wouldn't leave me, so I posted a thread on VRF asking for opinions on the dial. Low and behold, every reply from what has been confirmed as very well respected forum member confirmed that the dial had infact been relumed and they were 100% certain that It was not an original finish.

I went straight back to John at UK SPECIALIST WATCHES(Wednesday 27th) with my concerns and asking for a full refund.

He stated that he disagreed with everyone else and would not accept that the dial had been relumed. He stated the watch was now my property and that was end of the matter as far as he is concerned. Just to be clear, the reason he will not accept the watch back is because I have replaced the jubilee strap with a brown leather JPM strap, stating that this in his opinion is mauling the watch, very strange indeed!

My complaint is that he has sold me a watch that is not as described and now he will not accept liability for that .

What would you guys do ?

    Where do I stand now?

What do you think of the dial?

    More pics in post #55

I'm glad the OP finally got a refund but there certainly is something fishy about that seller. Good thing the original posts could be preserved so they can serve as a warning to future potential customers of this company.

Very glad that the OP was able to get a refund but if a condition of that was to remove this thread, or his original post, then it only casts a greater shadow on the dealer in question.

Wow that is just shocking!!! As it now looks that the OP got the full refund with a condition that this thread gets removed, I would avoid this dealer as a plague....

A representative should have come on this thread and reassured us all that they have learned from this situation and try to make things good etc... wishful thinking?
