    Recommend us a good TV-show!

    Hi,

    seeing as there's a "recommend a good movie"-thread then why not a TV-thread :)

I'm currently rewatching Veep, it's about the vice president of the USA and hers and her staffs antics. I would say it's a good show, easy to watch.

What shows are you currently watching?

    I have plenty:

    Classics:

    The Sopranos
    Lost
    House
    Dexter
    The wire
    The shield
    Fringe
    24
    Breaking bad
    The mentalist
    Spartacus
    Mad men
    White collar

These are all done and dusted. I might add some of my favourites ongoing ones later...
Let me know if I have forgotten some

I guess the fact that I really don't watch much TV explains why so far in the listed programs the only ones I've seen are:

    Supervet - inspirational
Band of Brothers - iconic and humbling

    I'd like to recommend:

Colditz documentary from 10/15 years ago (culminated in a replica of the glider being flown)
Clarkson's documentary on Maj Robert Cain (available on YouTube)
    Atom - from 2014
Longitude - Horizon Special from 1999

i guess not really much help but I watch almost no fictional stuff.

Sopranos and The Wire are two of my favorite shows, HBO really knows what they're doing.

I've heard good things about Peaky Blinders, I'll have to put it on my watchlist.

Netflix, like HBO, knows what they're doing. All great shows (not so much Orange... IMO, though).

Boardwalk is a great show, especially the last season (if memory serves me right)

Ripper Street - originally BBC but picked up by Amazon now.
Homeland, series 1 and 2 are excellent, 3 and 4 are ok.
Blacklist series 1 was good, series 2 dragged on a bit, yet to start S3.
Banshee - really loved that, season 4 (final season) out this summer.
Just finished watching Odyssey, which was naff in places but enjoyable enough overall.
I can't really explain why but i have enjoyed The Last Ship.

    Humans was quite interesting.

The latest Dr Jekyl was good too.

As above, Blacklist was good but getting a bit "samey" as it moves on.

Homeland - forgot about that. Great show and I really enjoyed season 5, I thought it went a bit off in season 3 but found its way again. Damian Lewis is a great actor as is Claire Danes, she does mental really well.

The best show ever in my opinion is the The West Wing.

Current easy to watch comedies we enjoy:

    Brooklyn Nine-nine
    Last man on earth
    Fresh off the boat
The League (wife hates this, apparently they're too rude to each other)
    The Grinder
    Modern Family
    The Big Bang Theory

Gold Rush,on Quest I believe, I can't get enough of this programme all about a bunch of guys who set out to Alaska to start up a gold mining operation, it's only on once a week here I later found it has been running since 2011/12 ish, now managed to find all the seasons from 1 to 6 via the android box, watched four yesterday, the beauty is there's no adverts to watch either.

Spin - sub titled French political drama on More 4
    Andy

    Wanted - Damasko DC57

I watched quite a few of these, but further down the line a lot of the events started to look a bit staged to me, kind of gave up after that.

Would have suggested quite a few that have been mentioned already. Here's one we discovered last Xmas when we both had flu, did about 35 episodes in a week!

Justified, on sky box sets. US Marshall who gets posted back to his hillBilly roots after one too many 'justified' shootings.

Not too heavy but quite good tv.

Daredevil - not a comic fan? Still watch it it's more a crime action drama than comic or at least a very realistic one.
Jessica Jones... same world setting but adult orientated too.

    Narcos as said already.

Man In The High Castle - alternate reality where Japan and Germany won WWII - not as strange as the book and entertaining .

Not finished it yet but Bloodlines is promising dark family drama

Something that SWMBO won't mind as well as is The Affair...
(Wire fans get Dominic West again here in good form, Ruth Taylor nude everyone a winner then)

seriously not my usual fare but it's excellent and very cleverly told tale of betrayal and a murder in there and each half of an episode is told from 2 characters viewpoint which doesn't quite tally with each other's memories so who is telling the truth?

Slightly more corny comic stuff is Arrow great fun and eye candy and the Flash which is a bit lighter still and great superhero fun too... Gotham I don't mind - Supergirl is a bit teen audience but harmless popcorn...

Not watched the murderer documentary yet but getting rave reviews too....

and I'm 5 episodes into Blindspot where a naked Jaime Alexander (Sif in Thor) is discovered drugged in a hold-all in Times Square with her memory wiped and body totally and I mean totally inked with tattoos that all have some sort of meaning and she has total amnesia...good fun action stuff...

Big bang theory is great, so is Modern family.

I'm gonna give Fresh of the boat a try when I'm done with Veep, I think.

The Grinder and Man in the high castle is on my list. Which is getting too long.

I like lighthearted stuff with no zombies etc lol.

I recently worked through Entourage which was entertaining, and now I'm on the silly but funny Brooklyn-99.

In memory of the (recently) late Abe Vigoda, I'd recommend Barney Miller. Available on Crackle http://www.crackle.com/barney-miller/2456623

And speaking of Crackle, Comedians in Cars Drinking Coffee is a web-series from Jerry Seinfeld that can be terribly funny. http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/

Glad it wasnt just me that thought this!

There's quite a few other threads on this, by the way (with some reviews etc which might be more helpful).

I have seen more "boxed-sets" than I can remember now, but the stand outs were Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and The Office (An American Workplace), amongst many, many others.

+1 for Man in the High Castle. Acting is a bit wooden at times but some great characters and good performances. Plus the whole concept is quite different.

    And another.....

True Detective. 1st season was very good, not so sure about the 2nd.

Lot's of great series mentioned in this thread.

I've heard great things about both Fargo and True Detective as well.

Strikeback is worth a watch if you like a load of action (and action)! 1st series was excellent and then Cinemax (i think) got involved for following series. A bit far fetched in places but an entertaining watch nonetheless.

To add to above, it's finished now and ran for 5 seasons.

Strikeback is good for watching one-two episode per week, IMO, otherwise the near constant gun fire gets to you

I thought the 1st season of fargo was excellent but couldn't get involved in the 2nd for some reason

Another Homeland fan here, and one that agrees with previous opinions on how each series has fared. The initial "is he / isn't he" and the storyline behind it was brilliantly inventive.

Gotham has me gripped, Deutschland 83 is going well, really looking forward to the new series of Supervet and The Undateables and First Dates can both be entertainingly touching. I don't know when the second series is due however Fortitude was very clever, I just hope they don't screw it up. X-Files in February has better be worth the wait!
