Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
You're all weird. It's batter.
Mmm, Patty and chips, with scraps.
Definitely scraps.
best bit was when you used to get some bits of potato in them, so sort of tiny scallops
Any reason you dont get these anymore ? .. obviously not a healthy option but what "fast food" is nowdays, mind you they would"nt be free today if they did still have them
I'm from down south and it's always been bits or scraps. Crackling is the whole pigs skin thing.
Scraps for me, both in the SE and NE of the country. Though i've heard them called scrumps in Lincolncestershire
Brighty
Scraps around here too, my local fish and chip shop always offers them to me and they're always surprised when I say no!
Scraps.

They have played a part in making me the man I am today.
Mid Kent in 70’s/80’s and they were crackling.
Scratchings .
Used to be able to get them with gravy and they were both free !
We called them 'batter-bits' when I was growing up in the 70s in Northampton. I used to shake my head when my mates asked for some to be mixed with gravy and spooned over their chips but then the 70s seemed to be the era of high calorie food, a prime example being spam fritters.
"Batter on top?" was the shout in the NE chippies (Sunderland), "scraps" being seen as a southern saying (well, south of Middlesbrough anyway)
Definitely scraps, born and raised in Humberside/Yorkshire.
Fish Bits - Manchester
When I was a student in the 70s in Exeter they were gribbles.
Scraps on my patty butty any day, maybe a bit of chip spice if I want to be fancy.
Batter in the north east.
Although being from Glasgow "the heart attack capital of Europe" even I was stunned when offered these in Newcastle. It's the stuff we put in the bin back home!!
In Sheffield they seem to be called "scraps". In Wakefield they were "bits"
Aye 'scraps' up 'ere in Yorkshire. Not heard them as bits.
Scraps, still get them in my chippy in Barrow in Furness!
Scraps in Teesside...
You'd get a funny look if you attempted to order these by any name in the New Forest where I'm from!
I'm sure my local authority banned these citing health n safety........
"Bits" where I came from in W Yorks.
We used to call em Scrumps when I was a kid in Wiltshire, great after you had been swimming training.
They should now be called Morbid obesity and heart attack.
Scraps (when I was a lad) 5p of chips and scraps after scouts (1973).
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Scramptions up here in Northumberland, but scraps seems to be taking over.
Feck me, it's like watching Kes in here!
Must admit, I have never seen nor heard of a chipper/chippy up here giving such delights either as a freebie or otherwise, then again we have our houseboy Raoul go fetch so I wouldn't really know
Scraps for me too, although it's a long time since I had them
Scratchings in Leicester.
Probably translates to 'dog bits' here.
