The link to handmade retro watch dosnt seem to work for me
to know but never dared to ask.
The first electronic wristwatch with digital display used Light Emitting Diode technology.

A fun yet fundamental explanation of that tech here by Juergen Hofstaedter from Germany:

LED watches had a very brief bright heyday.
Mid seventies LED watches suddenly dropped off the scene already. Only the Sovjets lauched a new one at that time for their higher end digital watch and that was because the LED display is indeed a very high quality display. After all Britains doyen of jewelry watch design used the display too for a line of one of watches for royalty!
They have been making a bit of a come back recently.
Even Omega has gone red LED for their Z33.
Here a modern handmade retro watch

Anyway, do enjoy the explanation by Juergen Hofstaedter and the many illustrations linked too.
His site http://ledwatch.de/index.html realy is a treasure trove.
Again, enjoy!

Gold & ruby red has been popular as status combi since early bronze age!!

My favourite LED watch is the Synchronar.
Sadly this one of mine stopped working. But I also have a yellow gold filled Omega TC2 which get's worn at least once a month.
A truely amazing watch with an even more amazing story. Riehl even went sofar as to develop his own chip (company) for it!!
It is one of the watches I would like to own. Preferably gold filled with split window.
