Very well done indeed. That 6159 is absolutely stunning and must feel wonderful in your wrist.

    Love the speedy Tony.

But the less said about the Seiko the better !

Great write ups as always though.

Seiko does it for me - congrats! It certainly is satisfying when you fill in those blanks....

Lovely buys Tony, not surprised that you are so understandably ebullient with them both.
The 6159 is a stunner and had I had the funds I would have had a go at that one myself.
I think the thickness would suit my wrist better than the sbdx012 - though I still miss that one also!

Sorry! First offer went to the original owner Schofie who didn't want to part with his Rolex for it. Second dibs (agreed at the time I bought it) was to Tony!

If you get a chance to get one, do it. The best Speedy I have owned by a mile. It just wasn't being worn and the coffers needed topping up :(

And thanks for the education on the Seiko Tony, you always deliver!

    Stunning, that Seiko is amazing.

Interestingly last week a Thai contact offered me a basically NOS 6159 but it was a Tuna version? I didn't know enough about it to determine if it was worth the near £2.5k asking price - anyone able to advise?

That would be top end for a 6159-7010 but it would have to be in exceptional condition with absolutely no issues.

Jeez Tony your ability to track down cracking examples and secure them is becoming legendary. Stop it now before there's nothing left for the rest of us

Still sounds like a lot of money to me... tempting though!

Lovely couple of post Xmas Crackers there Mr T, I was hovering over the PM button when Duncan put it on SC, I actually thought that if I did not send a PM that night you would buy it and would be sold by AM! I was right, congratulations.

Last year I was lucky enough to find a NOS 57 replica at a AD in Europe.

It is one of my favourite watches. At the time I was looking for a SMP, PO or Rolex Sub but this caught my eye in the window. What I love about it, is how subtle it is and the fact I've not seen another one, making it nice an unique.

If I decide to sell it, I'll make sure to stick it on SC, as there seems to be a quite few folk keen on these.

Congrats, two brilliant pieces. My favourite Speedmaster, if I ever buy one (and all WIS ought to own one at least once, right ?) that's the model I'd go for. Not massively into Seiko's diving watches myself, I prefer their dress watches, but I have to say this one is magic.

I like the Speedy '57, but I'm not sold on the Marinemaster, new or old, although I'd agree that the proportions of your new acquisition look much better than the recent MM300s.

    Amazing watches, both. Congrats.

    Lovely watches
Have not seen a 6159 in better nick.
    What beautiful pics as well!
Do bring the 6159 to NY when you come.
Will be more than happy to take it off your hands, so that you won't feel the need to torture us with its ugly pics😜

Hah! I'm there from next Wednesday, as it happens, but not staying out on LI this time. If you're in the city let me know and we can grab a beer... I'll be taking the 6159 too ;)

Am in LI but go to city often.
    So, either is fine!
    Let me know when here.

I've never been the biggest fan of the Speed master range however there's always an exception to the rule! No need for any exception for the 6159, though.

Well that's good going eh! Not even out of January and you've acquired 2 gems already. I'm particularly taken with that 57' I must say 😊

  28. #78
Well done Tony, I don't think I have seen better photo's of the 6159

  29. #79

I've actually put some slightly better shots up now. Can't stop the reflections in that crystal, though!

Missed this earlier. Very nice both of those. What a bland comment ! You know what I mean ... very nice. Just curious as to why the FOIS came and went. Anything bad or just no magic ? I saw one this week and thought it was a near perfect effort from Omega.

Thanks Paul. No, absolutely nothing wrong with the FOIS - once you've owned an Ed White, though...

Fair enough and understood. I think I'm in the "give me a modern 911 over a vintage one" demographic these days, despite hugely admiring/coveting the originals, if you know what I mean

I'm still debating between an FOIS or a '71 vintage Professional.

not sure why but haven't owned a Seiko for nearly 30 years, but that is bloody lovely and once again has me trying to work out why there isn't one in the collection.

Do you use tilt-shift lenses at all?
Any light modifiers - eg diffusers, gel filters, snoots?
Your photos (not just this thread) are great.

Thanks, and not really - I do have some softboxes but tend to use brollies instead. I also have a snoot but only use that very occasionally, if at all. My lens for watch shots is always the 100L macro.
