    30 bar watch cleaning method.

    Happy New Year everybody!

How would you clean/wash a fine dress watch with only 30m WR? Leather strap.

    Cheers.

Maybe just remove the strap and carefully take some soap and you partners tooth brush to it

Dependent on when it was last checked I would never rely on a stated depth rating. I have a vintage sub that I wont even wear if its raining....

    Lewie's right.

Take the strap off and use a soft toothbrush dipped in soapy water.

Lightly, and crown down, to be on the safe side.

Remove strap and remove movement, then wash case and crystal. Let dry, reassemble.

    Isn't that still just "new"?

Yep, damp toothbrush with a rub of soap, with the strap off.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Only concerned about the rinsing part, but crown down as advised should be fine.

I'd recommend baby wipes. They're good for cleaning most things without much residue.

Is the watch 30 bar (approx 300m equivalent) or 30m (= 3bar relative) - if it is 30m then soap and water should be fine a rinse.

Also have you checked any manufactures website for information. If you are worried - have it's water resistance checked before getting it wet at an Authorised Dealer - should be able to be done on the spot and for free at most.

    Hope that helps

Not in my experience. It's what I use for cleaning my laptop, iPod, calculator, TV remotes, iPad, phone handset, and indeed non-waterproof watches.

No you can get different ones. My Mrs buys the natural ones that have no "oily" products in and they're great for cleaningall kinds of things.

I clean mine with baby wipes. If you get the natural kind it's not much more than a damp cloth.

Something ain't right here, if it is a fine dress watch then it won't be water resistant to 30 bar. Why don't you tell us the make and model of the watch?

OK, so if it is new watch why does it need cleaning? I would clean that with a soft cloth - the sort you get with a pair of spec's.

The internet pics of that model case back just show 'water resistant' not a metre or bar rating. The links I looked at stated 3 bar which means 30 m only. I think you are mistaken in thinking it states 30 bar. Post a pic of the case back.

I wouldn't assume a NOS watch to be water-resistant. Depends how old the watch is, the quality of the rubber seals, and how carefully it's been assembled.

Provided all's well, a watch rated to 30metres will be OK to submerge in water provided the seals are working; I think that's obvious.

Watches can be cleaned without immersing in water, I think previous comments have made that clear. I'd be more concerned about the watch if it's been assembled into a NOS case, cleaning it up would be the least of my concerns.

From the links I found, that model is a very recent reissue of the first 60s GS model so NOS may mean only 2 years old ie basically new. If so the seals should be fine.

This is what I found: http://www.fratellowatches.com/hands...bgw047-review/

If the watch is a 2013 reissue there shouldn`t be any problems; my comments apply to watches with NOS cases that have been married up to old movements, they always ring alarm bells for me based on past experience.

If it's essentially a 2 year old watch that's never been apart there won`t be any problems.

I find caustic soda, and boiling water works well, fill the sink and leave it overnight, I can guarantee there will be no dirt in the morning

or a watch for that matter

    DON'T/NEVER USE BOILING WATER!

Steel expands and can compromise the water resistance. Never hot bath a watch, I learned the hard way with a 100m watch...
