New Arrival - Vacheron Constantin Patrimony

Just collected my early Christmas present and I'm feeling pretty chuffed! I've been thinking about taking the plunge on a Patek or Vacheron for a while and I couldn't ignore the value for money you get with a pre-owned VC. My first "dress" watch so I don't think it will be worn every day but I'm looking forward to glancing down at it for many years ahead.

An absolute dream of a watch. I hate to think how much time I've spent gazing at photos of it.

Will you be able to take a peek at the movement sometime?

The case is 40mm so quite large for this style watch but I'm pretty chunky so fits me perfectly. It also much thinner than anything I've owned before at 6 1/2 mm.

That really is quite large for this style - looks fine in your picture, though.

A fantastic choice and a watch I have come close to chasing down a few times. I suspect the reality is that it would be too big for my girly wrist but clearly you don't have that issue. Enjoy!

I really like that, the complete epitome of a classy dress watch.

I'd love to see the movement.

And what a classic it is. There's a nice white gold one on C24 in Italy for reasonably sensible money. I should stay off here just before Xmas, it's dangerous.
    Enjoy the beauty.

Absolutely lovely. No-fuss elegance, just the time and beautiful symmetry - just how a dress watch should be.

It's a 2014 and with a bit of haggling it was around half the new RRP.

It came with the box and without papers but I spoke to the Vacheron Boutique in London and you can order a copy of the "extract from the archives" and a copy of the Geneva Seal certificate. Not sure what they charge for these though.

These have particularly short lugs, the so called "claw" lugs. Not sure of the exact measurement but I'd guess in the 46-47mm range lug-to-lug

Because, iirc, of the thinness of the case and the curve of the dial, it has a far-from-wide movement that is also used in some of their Ladies watches, and thus a solid caseback. I think I've got the right one:

    20.65mm

A year ago VC charged 160 CHF for the "birth certificate".

Congratulations! Patrimony is an absolutely super dress watch. Enjoy.

I just don't understand how anyone could possibly purchase such a sexist item. Patrimony. I mean really!?

    Very nice piece.

How do you find having a slim watch? I haven't had a watch under 12mm for years and I also don't like titanium watches as I like a heavy feeling watch, I do wonder how comfortable i'd feel with a light slim piece similar to yours.

    Thanks

    It's a beautiful watch. Congrats!
I hope, one day, to get the slate grey dial/ platinum version.

Thanks, not as much as I'd expected. I think this ones a keeper (although I always say that) so I'll pop in and order the certificate.

So far it's been really comfortable and doesn't snag on shirt cuffs like my other watches.

That's correct, it has the 1400 movement which is 20mm wide.

Should the female version be called Matrimony or would that promote stereotypical roles in society?

Vacheron Constantin - I still miss the ampersand - are the epitome of cool style. When push comes to shove, they're the best.

It's a bit more subtle than IWC's latest tagline: IWC. ENGINEERED FOR MEN

There's a smaller model of the Patrimony with diamonds up the side of the case:

Does this mean that it can only be worn by women if a man has bought it for them?

Yep. Could/would PP, AP, L&S or JLC come up with and produce this? I don't think so...

Very elegant dress watch. Way more style than my wardrobe would permit. As for that offset dial cushion case V&C above; it has grown on me. Love it! Both are a credit to the respective owners and V&C.

When it comes to heritage, you can't argue with a brand that survived the French Revolution and was worn by Napoleon. Congratulations!

Like that, a lot. Simple. Elegant.
