Personally I think Chris Froome. First British person to ever win two tours I think just edges the other achievements but congratulations to them all. I think this year will be close

Sinfield or Froome for me.
Can't decide between them though
Tyson Fury for being one of the few on the list with a personality.
No Vardy??? It's a travesty...
Glad Sinfield got a mention. Reckon he might get runner up.
Fury has to be a good tip after the Klitschko fight surely? Beat Christian Hammer earlier in the year as well - two excellent wins under his belt.
Best the UK has ever produced? Far from it (imo), but he's still world champ and he's beating all comers at the moment.
I'd go with Froome personally, but I suspect the many legions of F1 fans may put Hamilton in the running again.
Froome for me, and then Andy Murray after that.
Surprised there are no snooker or darts players there given those are apparently the only two sports the BBC seems to be aware of...
In years past if a British man won the heavyweight championship he would be a shoo in for the SPOTY.
Probably not PC enough for the beeb though.
Cheers,
Neil.
Not much to chose from there! A few many won't be familiar with which won't help their case?
Hamilton given the (incomprehensible!) popularity of the yawn that is F1
Murray (despire the complete absence of personality) due to the Davis Cup - unless they get the TOTY award?
Fury? Irish descent and BBC don't televise boxing and as above, no longer 'inclusive' enough for the BBC
If there was a gay, religious, fringe sport candidate, I'd have guessed at that!!
Personality is always the lacking part.
Achievement wise, Max Whitlock - The First EVER British World Gymnastics Champion.
How can Joe Root not even be on the list? Or Anderson or Broad for that matter...
Has to be Lizzie Armitstead for me... World Champion, retained her World Cup, National Champion... although as she was beaten by Jessica Ennis for the Times Sportswoman of the Year I can't see it happening.
Chris Akabusi!
No, FROOMEY!!! obviously!
If there was a PBOTY then Froomy but has to be Jess for me
Exactly. Humiliating Australia obviously counts for nothing any more. That catch by Ben Stokes at Trent Bridge was the moment of the year, and reducing Australia to 60 all out was priceless. But the BBC are now reduced to covering pub games which they dress up as "sport" and the whole concept of "Sports Personality of the Year" has been degraded.
I shall refuse to watch out of principle now. Bah!
there is a team award so i guess the cricket team may feature in that? not the rugby though
The size of the Beeb's PR and production increases in direct proportion to the decrease in actual sports coverage.
SPOTY used to be a great review of the year. It's gone downhill for years.
I don't know who half the people nominated are...
I dont think the BBC shows any cycle races (apart from the World Championships, hidden away on the red button channel), but they nominate Chris Froome, and have awarded the overall honour to Wiggins and Cavendish in the past (all cyclists, for those who dont know).
I'm with those who can't believe Joe Root doesn't get a mention. He's had a phenomenal year.
From a biased point of view, I'd go Murray as I'm a huge fan.
Then Froome.
Suspect it'll be Ennis though. The Beeb will big up their golden girl again. She's currently bookies fave too...
Agree with people who nominated Joe Root, how could they leave him out?
He actually has a personality as well, unlike many others.
Cheers,
Neil.
Another 3 hours on a Sunday night you wont get back !, these things are so outdated in my humble of course real smug cheesy evening...
anyway Lady C will walk it , why do you think she left the jungle ?
Cheers
Wayne
interesting kettle terence
Froome for me is the winner, I am slightly bias as a keen cyclist but he has achieved an incredible feat with the added pressure of the unwanted media attention on drugs and disgraceful behaviour of fans yet despite all he has 'rode through the storm' and should emerge victorious
