    Speedmaster Saturday

With all these wonderful Speedmasters surfacing at the moment, I thought I would share a few iPhone pics of mine.

It's just returned from Duncan (The Watch Bloke), who's watch repair blog/website I discovered from lurking here just before I joined.

Duncan has treated the watch to a sympathetic service including a new Omega crystal, chronograph seconds hand, movement overhauled with a new mainspring and the case/bracelet has been ultrasonically cleaned.

I've been wearing it today for a nice drive out through Sussex, sleeve rolled up so I can see it in my eyeline, as you do!

    Thanks Duncan

Thank-you gentlemen, what a lovely Tintin Speedy there as well

The strap is made by Aevig in Holland and came from Taunton Watch Services. The owner was kind enough to sell me his last one. This particular strap also comes as standard with one of the Aevig watches (which are fantastic BTW). Anyone in that neck of the woods should pop in and take a look.

    Thanks

For anyone who's interested, here's some pics from the album Duncan took while he was working on the watch. I marvel at the incredible skill to strip down all those tiny levers and parts in the chronograph and put it all back together working again.

    The watch dates from 1973/4.

Amazing pics of the movement disassembled - I am also in awe of the skills required to work on these miniature mechanical marvels.

I really love the old Speedmaster font, not that there is anything wrong with current but the old tall S is just marvelous :)

With the right tools and a lot of practice i have taught myself to service my chronographs by disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling them, It's not for everybody and not everyone can do it......

Hats off to you, if you shared some pics on here I'm sure it would go down a storm

Happy to report my watch is running well within chronometer specs and wears it's age very nicely. It's 12 years older than me, someone must have thought they were jack sh*t walking round wearing this in the 70s. Also good to know if I ever meet Heidi Klum that I have a birth year watch ready for her up my sleeve

Yup, picked it up in Sydney airport drunk back in 2001 I think, been all a round the world with me. Bit small by today's standards but I love it as its a little different and the chequered racing dial is a winner.

Go down a storm is a saying that means it would be welcomed. So, yes a very good thing.
