    Fargo TV Series?

I absolutely love the Coen brothers movie to the point where I could quote most of it in synch, but haven't seen the TV version. Should I, or will I be disappointed?

You won't. Series 1 was better so far but series 2 picked up a bit over the last two episodes.

It has retained some of the "quirkyness" of the film

As a fan of the Coen Brothers in general and Fargo in particular, I was looking forward to this. I watched the first few episodes of series 1 but lost interest.
It's not bad, but it's not great either.

There is better TV out there.

You can't possibly be disappointed. Fargo and True Detectives are the best things on TV for years.

I also loved the film and was put off watching the series.
When I did get round to it I was really surprised and it had me watching it and finishing it over the course of a few days.

Billy Bob Thornton was great. The cast worked really well.
I wonder how many are watching without ever seeing the film.

Just quickly on True Detective, I thought the second series was so difficult to get into. First was simply perfect.

I love the film and the series certainly lives up to that.

If you haven't seen the first series then I suggest you watch that first and then watch the 2nd season. It's not necessary as they don't follow on but it's worth watching just for Billy Bob Thornton! :-)

I loved the film, and really enjoy the tv series. Billy bob thornton was great in the first series and Iam loving the second series. It started slow but is now building up nicely great acting and quirky characters.

As is so often the case, the useful search function shows there was a thread about it just over 3 weeks ago...

I preferred the 1st series, but the second is enjoyable.

I must admit The Bridge's latest series has 'grabbed' me much more than this series of Fargo.

1st season ok - Im a fan of BBT BUT I thought Martin Freeman was quite poor in it.

Havent seen the second season yet - although I liked the first season it became a chore and forced myself to get through it...

Thanks for the feedback folks, it has convinced me that it will be worth getting hold of the first season. And thanks for the True Detective tip, also not something we've watched yet.

Three main plots, still with local police at the centre but in short, local gangster family at war with larger crime syndicate.

I literally just started watching the 2nd series last night after recording it on recommendation, and although it's early days, I'm hooked.

I did this with The Killing and The Bridge – missed the 1st series', watched the 2nd and couldn't believe I'd been so stupid. Brilliant telly.

Oh, I looked for it yesterday and couldn’t find it. I’ll look again, thank you.

    Edit: Found it, thanks!

Liked it apart from the last episode.
Only one I've still to watch is series 4 which had mixed reviews.

Just coming to end of Se4. It's Ok - Chris Rock is great in it, but the story is not as strong as the others. Se2 for me was the best, with Se3 and Se1 close behind.

all the seasons of fargo are worth watching (season 3 was prob the worst for me - i dont rate ewan mcgregor's acting skills at all )

    S5 is excellent.
The 2 main protagonists are superb, backing cast are to a man excellent. Great casting I thought.
