    New forum member

    Hi,

New member here. As it looks like I will continue purchasing watches thought it about time I got a bit more knowledge off others, etc.

Have had many, many watches over the years and had a decent ‘collection’ when divorce hit. Having to pay certain bills and ‘liquidating’ some for various reasons depleted that collection and ‘more important’ things took over but a few years ago was in a position for the collection to start to build up again. Will admit to ‘moving up’ price-point, only buying automatic movements and being a bit more ‘selective’ on brands these days though.

    Current collection is;

Rolex GMT – black ceramic model

Rolex Submariner – green ceramic ‘Hulk’ variant

Rolex Submariner – older black model, well bashed and used (bought 2nd hand)

Breitling Titanium Avenger Chrono’ – spent about three years hunting one of these down and eventually got a ‘good as new’ 2009 model earlier this year with good service history provenance – one of my favourite watches

Breitling Superocean Heritage Chrono’ – green bezel with gorgeous mesh strap

Panerai Luminor GMT – not really my cup of tea and likely to go to my brother…..

Zenith El Primero Chrono’ – my first ‘very expensive’ watch way back in 2002. It has the bright yellow face and I see another forum member has the same model on some old posts I was scanning. I have no intention of ever selling this watch. Just had a major overhaul and new bezel so looks as good as new again.

IWC Fliegeruhr Pilot Chrono’ – love IWC, sold older version model as part of divorce so had a new one when I could. Not keen on the pin/buckle IWC strap and still not found the ‘ideal’ clasp type replacement strap for it after a couple of tries (currently on a ‘Hirsh’ strap with red stitching, looks good, doesn’t feel good though on wrist)

Seiko Diver (SKX009 I think?) – one of my all-time favourite watches. Don’t wear this much now though as the rubber strap irritates my skin.

Can possibly see me buying another Omega at some point (Superocean Chrono’ most likely?) and quite taken with Bremont also.

Only like round face watches and they must have a date window for me personally otherwise I won’t buy it (and hence why a Daytona had to go after I did buy one……..).

Have also owned a number of Oris and Longines (think they are both great VFM for quality also) and liked Hamilton’s with the LH side winder (as I am a cack-handed right wrist watch wearer) along with the ‘standard fare’ of multiple TAG’s along the way (still like the ‘S’ link straps on their older watches).

Hoping to pick up some learning on watches in general and partake in forum membership, like many I have ‘opinions’ and hope they are seen in a positive/informative light at times……….

Welcome! Same reasoning behind joining for me too. A bit of common interest and a chance to absorb some knowledge - what could be better?

Fair point. It's just that my world revolves around a certain make of car.

    Welcome.

There's a "sticky" on Watch Talk. You need to host them on a site like Photobucket. Or a better one.

Welcome. Sounds like you've got some nice stuff.

Plenty of car fans on here too, including a few classic car nuts.

Welcome to the forum, with regards to posting photo's you could try Tapatalk as an easy option, but the images won't be as good quality as if uploaded from Photo Bucket!

Thanks for all the welcomes and that.

Will look to photo upload facilities at some point I am sure but all a bit of an unecessary faff IMO (I'm not stupid or PC illiterate but just know I will have 'issues' on something like this )

Welcome. Guess we'll just have to try and cope without your pictures.

There are several thousand on here who manage the unnecessary procedural faff so it should be ok.

You've certainly hit the ground running on here with those beauties Where did you find the Zenith if you don't mind saying?

All you need now is a TimeFactors piece to finish it off :)

The Zenith I stumbled across in Oxford back in 2002. Was sitting there almost hidden behind others in the case display like a sad puppy in the window, the yellow face obviously making it unwanted in the sea of TAG's around it. I'd actually bought a TAG automatic something or other but was really unhappy with it's timekeeping and it had been back for adjustment but was still losing a silly amount of time daily so I rejected it and was going to walk away when I spotted the Zenith.

I lusted after it immediately but admit I didn't know who Zenith were really so had to do a bit of 'research' (no quick search on Google on your moby in those days.....), think this has the same movement as Daytona of the era (sure I will be corrected if that is wrong) and I just went for it and have loved it ever since. Really is a talking point and definitely a love/hate watch to anyone who notes it.

Had it serviced about five years ago as timekeeping not great (never has been TBH, and at odds with why I returned the TAG at the time....) and then start of this year it had a 'full service' at a local indy with new winder, bezel mechanism and a few internals replaced with a light polish to bring it back fresh. The lovely wooden box is in mint condition and stored with all the others away from my watches (insurance co. recommendation) and it's maybe worn few days a month.

I wear all my watches and am not precious about any minor wear and tear that comes from that, much easily remedied with a quick polish at service/sale time anyway, my metal watch band clasps take a bit of a hit as I'm right handed but wear watch on my right hand so lots of desk-surfing swirls and scratches apparent quite quickly.

Welcome to the forum, nice selection. You're right though, it does need an Omega in there :-)

Carbuilder - great collection, but as you say an Omega would balance things out. The speedmaster pro would be the classic choice but looking at your collection maybe seamaster chrono or variant may be more to your liking?

    Welcome me to the forum!

Hi and welcome to the Forum. As others have said, very nice set you have there. I also have a Zenith El Primero, similar to yours but with the plain black face, I bought it in 2004 and wear it a lot.

Really interested in where you had yours fettled, as I'm local to you. Could you please let me know who/where/cost etc?

Ps - Another confirmed car nut here too.
