My favourite watch has a Lemania 5100 in it.
Just seen the rather nice Fortis on SC and having never owned a watch with the 5100 movement, I thought you could maybe show me some....
Just the usual for me:
I am sure Andy will be along in a moment to upstage everyone with some uber-rare stuff, but here is my current 5100-powered flock. Sorry about the frame bits from my very basic lighting umbrella.
They are:
- Lemania-branded version of the Sinn 142, with blue dial, black sub-dials, black internal bezel and a polished and brushed case so much more interesting to look at than the blasted Sinn versions. Having said that, next is.....
- My blasted Sinn, the EZM1. Love it to death. Superb watch. Even a misaligned bezel can be forgiven of this handsome tool.
- Tutima ZUZ, one of very few issued to the German customs troops, this is Tutima's Commando II up-specced by the addition of a bi-directional bezel. If there was tob be only one, this is it for me
- Porsche Design. The classic. How does this 1972 design continue to look so modern? That man was a genius. This one is my 4th of these, and has just been re-PVDed by Orfina themselves.
- Lorenz Sub Pro, this one in the rarer blue. Until we all started harping on about them on forums, the best value 5100 by far. This one cost me about 20% of what my EZM1 did.
In total I have probably had another 20 or more watches powered by this movement, including lovely ones like another of the Fortis LE's (Like HappyJack's on SC at the moment) all the way down to hideous examples from now-defunct Italian boutique brands. The above is my distillation or what I want from the movement, and the watches that use it.
The only one I think I might also like is the 'grail', but that is so far above my cost comfort ceiling for a single watch that I know I will never own one.
And I would like to buy a Tutima Bund at some stage. They are still obscenely good value. Somehow though, this purchase never gets to the front of my want list queue.
There you go, a few more.
Dave
PS - I also have a rather garish Lorenz Bi-metal white dial 5100, but that is a donor awaiting a project.
Here's mine. Great legibility with the big minute counter.
My fav movement ever... I've had a few of the above including:
And a variation on the 5100:
Rob
Some fantastic watches, and the Fortis LE is a great one - Dave(S) has forgotten more than I'd ever know about Lemania 5100s, but I do like them...a lot...
Here's my current collection:
Start with my favourite, the EZM1, of course...in LE and ZUZ versions:
And as Dave, a ZUZ Tutima:
But perhaps just as rare is the SAAF:
And less rare perhaps, but perhaps, for me, the final real evolution of the Speedmaster, using the Lemania movement in 1045 form:
Then it's always good to see a Heuer...
Or two -
And another Sinn - great users of the movement in various guises, here's a first edition 156 (two subdials instead of three)
Then perhaps the best value Lemania 5100, the great Lorenz Sub Pro, in two guises:
And finally a quirky EternaMatic powered by the 5100 - surprisingly dressy for the agricultural movement:
A Fortis LE would round off the collection nicely, and I'm also missing a PD and a nice Sinn 142, AMI....etc etc!
