Still hoping we get some great shots of the 007 in this thread from some of the skilled photographers :-).

I took some photos for you, I don't consider myself good at watch photography though.

I just ordered the vintage type/modded Seiko I have wanted for a while today, it was not expensive

Certainly not a skilled photographer but here's one of the old tat.

Thanks I really appreciate that. Great shots, my favorites are 2 and three, they bring out the case shape nicely. I have a 007 and keep wanting a 009 as well, despite having some more valuable pieces already.

Ha, I own a patek among a few other nice watches ...and I also just asked my wife for a Seiko ( SKX009 ) for christmas :-)

The only problem I've had is she said she wouldn't do it as I would just end up selling it ...so I guess I will be buying that seiko myself then ;-)

Does anyone else really struggle to push the crown back in on these ?

I totally concur with the OP - although I've owned a very similar number of Rolex watches to him over the years, I just flipped too many and realised they just aren't really to my taste any more (and a few QC issues with my last Rolex made me realise they aren't all that special and - whisper it - a bit boring and predictable. Much preferred my Sinn, Seiko and G shock selection now. I will admit I perhaps bought watches to be a bit 'flash' in the past - albeit unknowingly at the time - and now I've grown beyond that phase I genuinely don't want to tie much money up in this hobby any more, just have fun at the shallow end and spend my money on having fun (myself and my family) and not just collecting stuff I rarely wear!

Nice, definitely a 6309 vibe there.

    Love the cushion cases.

    What model is that?

Less contentious than the 'I would rather have a Vostok than a Rolex" discussion a while back which resulted in a number of temper tantrums (me included)

@Neil.C/ Well I hope (if all to be read is to be believed) that it's real anyway

This 6309 incidentally turned up in the post today. :-)

well, judging by the number of skx I have seen in real life, compared to the rolex subs,
I would say the skx is a much more exclusive watch.

that's what probably gets it more wrist time.

it's like having a sexy, easy next door neighbour who is not much of a all nighter
opposed to going out with the cheerleader that has been with all the football team and has the looks of any other cheerleader.

and let's face it, a seiko says different things about the wearer compared to what a rolex says.
don't get me wrong, the rolex says them too, but they are whispers compared to all the other stuff it is shouting.

sometimes you just want to be cool and easy without the fuss.

Well, Murph explicitly said that he does:

So nothing to do with the fact that Seiko make fine watches, which they do, but just that he's worried about the stigma of wearing a Rolex. Sounds like someone who cares what other people think.

    Interesting read! Thanks for sharing!

I also have a thing with the SKX007. Have two at the moment, had all possible versions of the 7 and the 9 in the past. I just love wearing this watch and I too prefer to wear it over a Rolex from time to time, for different reasons that you, mostly on special occasions, I don't want to risk damaging the Rolex, which is a sage queen more or less, even though I love wearing it.

    A ridiculous statement

    I LOVE my GS.

Sometimes I think about selling my Omega and Zenith for one more GS. Still, I should own one Rolex just for lulz.

See, that is the complete antithesis of the thread.

Murph's premise with his "ridiculous statement" was that he was enjoying a cheap Seiko rather than his more expensive watches.

The GS are just another expensive watch.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Nice GS but care to elaborate your point in relation to the thread?
    Lulz!

wear what you want to wear!

plain and simple. nothing strange or 'wrong' with wanting a less expensive watch for whatever reason.

nothing about this hobby needs to make sense except to you.

A thing I've just discovered that I'm sure 99% of people who have an MM already know. The whole clasp is made of titanium!

They don't even tell you, just a slight hint, the clasp is marked "Stainless Steel-B". Presumably to denote the bracelet is SS, which it is.

Not really relevant to the thread but shows what clever cookies Seiko are.

    Thank you.

My position is that each one goes crazy in his own way.
OP likes Seiko more than Rolex? Fine. But too many references how others are looking and what they are thinking. We left school some time ago, aren't we?

With due respect, he was talking about an SKX007, not a GS diver which is a different class of watches altogether even if a Seiko.
GS diver would hold its own against a Rolex, so wouldn't raise as many eyebrows.
OP did not state he likes Seiko more than Rolex. He was just stating that lately he has preferred wearing a Sieko.

I would just like to say I have 10 Rolex's, an omega, 3 Panerai, a Franck muller, a JLC and a vintage Seiko

    guess what!.............

    Hey Murph,

Couldn't help noticing that the Seiko wasn't included in your recent paid watch review here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOJtqsP1Q8M

    Care to explain?

Yep^^^^ those were the only watches I had at the time. Pelagos had gone to my old neighbour by the time of the review and I had a black bay and a Sinn also

What can I say. I am a vintage watch guy at heart. I bought the SKX but have been bidding on original 6309's on an off for about 3 years now and would always take a decent one over a modern. Although I did wear the SKX in the pool and out in the rain. Very particular about not getting the vintage wet.

Archie likes a Seiko these days lol.

Edit: P.s that YouTube vid by Archie was in June ! ... I'd usually have gone through about 10-15 watches by now. Although it's been a slow year !

    Bit of Both!

The "high quality" plastic strap broke as they always do and it was the only size of Nato I had in stock.

The fact it is a Bond style and too small is purely coincidental.

You'll be glad to know it is now sporting a black Nato of the correct size.
    Cheers,

Damn it! I've just ordered another. Thought I'd better get one bought before they disappear. Strapcode bracelet ordered too.
This'll be my second 007, sold my first stupidly, it was a J too.

I must be a bit ridiculous too. I have 5 Seikos in a sixteen-watch collection; am selling a Rolex as it's effectively been replaced by an MM300; and was only thinking today that the aforementioned five would make a tidy little collection on their own (with everything from a GS dress watch to a vintage bullhead).

Nothing ridiculous about it, I own a Rolex, a couple of Tudor, five Omegas and a couple of Sinn.
While I was excited about them when I bought, them they're just watches.
They don't make me faster, fitter, younger, more attractive to women.
    They're just watches.
I'm just a very naughty boy.
