Thin/slim divers or pilots case watch

I apologise in advance if this subject has been done to death! I have found a couple of threads.

Recently, I bought & sold an Oris Divers Sixty - Five, now I am wondering whether I made the right decision!!

    I keep looking at slim case watches and what I mean by that are;

    10-12mm thick case,

40mm diameter stainless steel, either polished or brushed case

Excellent legibility both during the day & night

    Rubber,resin leather or NATO strap

    WR: for swimming and snorkelling

    Automatic

    Date

    Cost, no more than £1,000

What brands/models do you think, ticks the boxes?

    Something like

Mule Glashutte Watch Terranaut III Trail (though not sure what the thickness is)

    Speed bird III

    Thank you

Not an expert by any means, but 2 that spring to mind are the 39mm Longines Hydroconquest (300m WR), available on both bracelet and rubber and also perhaps the Orinent Mako\Ray at 40mm (200m WR), not sure on the height but not too bad from memory. The Orinent would leave you with near £900 to play with out of your budget too.

    My bad

I've had a couple. They certainly "wear small" to my eye due to the low profile.

This is the problem I have found. It is very hard to find a diver under 40mm, let alone a Pilot. Generally, all the divers I've seen at that size are more dressy than tool watches. Doesn't matter to me as I don't dive and use a Timex Ironman for swimming and surfing.

    PRS 82
    Speedbird III

I know that the Prs 82 is 14mm thick but the caseback sits into the wrist and the curve of the crystal and bezel means it only sits 10mm high. Very comfy and actually feels slimmer than the speedbird.

Omega used to do Seamaster Professional divers in 11mm thick case of 41mm diameter (so, only a hair over your threshold). I found them to be very slim and didn't wear too large at all. For £1000 you should be able to find a good used example of either a 2531 (Bond) or 2254 (sword hands).

I could also recommend the Hamilton Khaki Field in either 38mm (a bit under) or 41mm (a bit over). A tremendous value, especially on the used market, and ticks all your boxes I believe. The only exception might be the lume, which like all Hamiltons is only so-so. But the dial is wonderfully detailed, yet legible.

Limes (part of Ickler) used to do a 39mm diver (the Ein Tausend) that was about 11mm thick.

The current models have bloated a little & don't fit your criteria.

Sinn 104 St Sa Arabic. Lovely pilot / diver style. 41mm but not too huge. See Murph77's reviews and pictures. Great on a bond RAF nato strap.

Good thinking on the Sinn 104. Might I also suggest the 556 - meets all the criteria and is available with your choice of numerals or baton markers.

If you can find one, the Eterna Kontiki 1856 is 9mm thick and 40mm in diameter. About £600 to £700 would be the going rate on eBay. It's a fantastic little watch and I shan't be moving mine on any time soon.

I'm not sure if they are thicker than 12mm but the 38mm Christopher Ward Trident may be worth a look?

Squale 20 Atmos seems to tick the size boxes, but it is a homage and you'd need to ship in from Singapore or US. Only £350 though and excellent quality for the money.

If you don't mind vintage then Omega came out with a good-looking model called 'Calypso' a few years back. You can still find them around and there are a few on the 'bay.

[shameless plug] Or see the one I have for sale atm ;) [/shameless plug]

Seriously though, I'd say a Damasko, if only because that's what I've set my sights on next :)

Stowa Flieger is an excellent choice for a thin pilot.
