Friend of mine had one and I never thought it sounded amazing. I've got the Bose soundlink mini which I think sounds a lot fuller for a speaker of the same size. The UE just sounded a little empty to me. It sounds great for something of that size but IMHO the Bose sounds better.

I have one of these from Sony. I think it sounds great, on par, if not better than the Bose. Plus it has a really good battery life.

Furthermore if you link it with a Sony Walkman or phone it uses a higher transfer rate for Bluetooth. Speaker therefore receives a higher quality signal which equals higher quality/less compressed sound.

I think it can be had for under a £100 now from Sony, JL or anywhere really.

I picked up a JBL charge 2+ for my holidays this year, must say very impressed with it. Booms a bit when cranked up high as it is rather small, but you can pair up to three devices and play music from each, also has lots of battery life!

Bose Sound Mini Link is fantastic... - considered by many to be the best at that price point. I would personally recommend it highly, - every time one of my friends hear's it, - they're impressed, and a couple of them have soon after brought one themselves

I have tried a few and now have the Bose Mini . I think it is the gold standard for portable speakers in a reasonable size and weight.

The UE is great and probably better in every way except the sound, but the sound is what its about .

I fond this site useful when I was looking for a Bluetooth speaker:

He has plenty of Youtube videos demonstrating the various models. I bought a Denon Envaya Mini for just under £100 which is fine for indoor use but doesn't have a massive battery life. I'd also look at the JBL Flip 3 if I were buying another one.

If you want the very best, this:-

I've used this at various bbq's, outdoor functions and its seriously good.... not cheap (there is a junior version). Sounds like a hired disco outside!

I have a UE roll speaker which I am happy with. It's also waterproof which would suit use in the garden.

Denon Envaya, Denon has tweeked the output curve of this and some of the HEOS range to be a bit less heavy handed, and it shows. Its now one of the best Bluetooth speakers at any price.

Speaking of HEOS, the HEOS range now offers Bluetooth functionality, in addition to its whole home connected feature set, with the new firmware update.

UE booms are fantastic, true travel speakers. Bass is better in the Bose, but that is designed to stay indoors in your hotel room.
