Just back from a lazy Wiltshire pub lunch. And my companion...my Sinn 556A. Oh, and the family. The 556A works in every environment. It's perhaps the only watch I own where I don't have to worry about whether it's appropriate for what I'll be doing that day.

Ah I see, thanks! Then why not choose a Patek :) I don't know much about PPs so can't be spesific. A Submariner or a GS automatic diver's would also be more than enough for me for a lifetime.

Absolutely stunning. I’d go with one of these, albeit white gold, back face, or a Patek 5396 - similar ballpark.

Not a difficult ask, but it's the affordability (to me) that's the issue.
    Steinhart 500?

I’m not sure that is one watch for life, but a lovely unassuming thing, and probably not easy to replace, especially on a bracelet. I have its very similar sibling

Think it will take a lot to beat a MM300

The longer I own one the more I think its the Sarb035, a watch that just works

The Rolex SD4000 has everything I need in a watch. I would happily wear no other - if I could bring myself to wear it every day.

A cream dial ‘550 for me. More useful complication than a submariner, less ubiquitous than a Pepsi GMT.

Having purchased a Oyster Perpetual from a forum member not long ago it’s the only watch I have owned that just seems to work in every situation.

It’s simple, inconspicuous and hard wearing a watch you put on and forget about so a great all rounder at a resonable price as Rolex go on the used market.

+1.......a great choice. Easy to refinish if it gets scratched, and every bit as durable as the so-called sports models that everyone fawns over. Understated class.

    Sentimental Watch, my GMT Master.
If I choose a ‘new’ Watch then maybe an Annual Patek or Platinum Day Date/Daytona

Probably would have a different answer in a few days when I change my mind. But today my choice would definitely be a Moser perpetual calendar

Simple and understated. Fine in pretty much every situation.

BLNR for me. It has all the functionality I need, is more waterproof than I will ever use and should take a bit of abuse if that happens. I don’t see myself attending many black tie functions so it would be smart enough.

Runners up we’re the patek 3940 (not tough enough), a 5517 milsub (not sure I could live with fixed bars forever) and the Uber cool and rare space dweller.

I’d be looking at a Pepsi GMT2 does what you need for a daily and I’ll never get bored looking at it.

If Tudor did the GMT in a BB58 size then that would be the one for me...

    If only Carlsberg...

I would say my GS hi-beat

    Or this DJ

But really, I would forsake all for my Dad’s Explorer, which Will be passed on to me one day (hopefully far in the future). It holds sentimental value, you can’t find them for less than silly money these days and it’s a timeless classic. I’d sacrifice the lack of a date for all that.
