'Just can't beat a Moony '
No indeed - I keep my Seamaster 300 M as a beater!
Yes, but I still have a hankering to add a Navitimer to the collection.
I agree. Probably the lowest price "classic" you can buy as well sadly. Great, great watches... if you ever get chance to visit the Omega museum in Bienne, you'll wonder why you buy watches other than Speedmaster to be honest!
Still got to love a decent sand nato..
Great combo, I like the SBS Brown NATO (Note I am not SBS)

Great looking watch :-)
Timeless dial!
Seconds and hours markers are hypnotising. I wish a had a three hand no date watch with this dial and hands design.
One of my favourite watches.Very nice Kerry.
One of my favourites and one of the greatest watches ever!
Is that what we call them now?
"Rollies" and "Moonies"?
I hope not.
If the Omie Moonie is a Great watch - we could just call it the OMG !!!
Its a design classic, relatively unchanged since the late 1950's, but looks like it could have been designed yesterday. There are not that many products that you come across in life that can claim this fact
Really true, quite similar to some pieces from the Rolex line up. Although i think they could have added a date version of the Speedmaster. They sort of did with the racing edition, but that one is so incredible thick because of the new movement that it is unwearable.
It's not the movement that makes it thick. I don't know where this misinformation comes from. That new automatic movement is barely any thicker than the ancient Lemania inside the Speedmaster Professional.
In any event there have been date-equipped Speedmasters since the early 1970s.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!
Thank you for that information regarding the movement, i really did not know that, i have read multiple places that the newer movement required a thicker case. This is really a wide spread myth that is everywhere, good we have Omega experts like you to clear it up. Basically you are saying that Omega just want thicker cases for the sake of it and not because it is a requirement, that is probably the most depressing watch reading i have read in a while.
Regarding the date, i should had been more specific, speedmasters with dates that look almost exactly like the original (with limited thickness) and not a complete modern version of it. Or to rephrase it, the 311.30.42.30.01.006 (added Sapphire) with a 6' o clock date that was made thinner, and we would have a winner.
I wouldn't call it "thin" but at 7.5mm it's a bit slimmer than the ETA 7750 which is a chunky movement but one that can be fitted without problems into a 13.5mm case.
What adds the thickness is the high-riding bezel that's proud of the case, heavily domed sapphire crystal that's proud of the bezel, and very deep bowlback glass rear that lifts the watch case off the wrist.
In some models the height of the hand stack is greater, as the hands have to clear thick applied dial markers, and subdials with two hands. Logical in isolation bit it all adds up.

The definitive chrono IMO.
The classic Omega....and I've never owned one. I just never got round to buying one.... In fact I don't own a single Omega at the moment.... Must buy something!
