Thread: S A S Rolex

    S A S Rolex

I found this on Chrono 24. I don't doubt its rare but to me the premium is extreme. Its a nice watch. I have one myself without the engraving. I just didn't realise I saved nearly 30k.

It was dismissed as no more than a commemorative edition with no history and not worth the money - completely different to Milsubs and Comex watches.

It's the engraving, by Mr. Magoo, that makes this so special.

A special forces soldier is hardly likely to wear a watch like that on operations, especially with the name of his regiment engraved on it. Be a bit of a giveaway, wouldn't it?

Wondering why people with no interest in watches are on a watch forum?

It's a shame the watch is now relatively worthless with all that engraving courtesy of Timpsons the shoe repairers.

If you're concerned about living in the wonderful world of Walter Mitty; how about a John Bull sub..

I could be "barking" up the wrong tree, but I guess either hand done with a small diamond die grinder or spark erosion.

Rolex offered some gold pieces with a similar finish but cast into the metal.

This gets back to the whole aftermarket debate, if Rolex themselves have created a bark effect on the bracelet or manufactured a diamond dial or bezel then it is highly thought of, but if someone else has done the work or made the aftermarket parts, then it is open to ridicule including by Rolex themselves who we know will not touch a watch that contains non genuine parts.

Give me 20 minutes with a Dremel and could add many thousands to the value of my Submariner. At least I wouldn't need to worry about scratching it.
