Thread: Did I do the right thing?

Did I do the right thing?

Just for a bit of fun...I was recently given the opportunity to trade one of these watches for the other. And I took it. I'm not going to say which I gave up and which I got in return, but which would YOU have out of these two - assuming a straight-ish swap of one for the other?

I like the smiley face ones normally but this one has too many needle things on it. They would irritate me. So I'll go for the world in action one even though I don't normally like them.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Out of those two I prefer the JLC by a wide margin.

The JLC. The date on the Patek irritates me as it breaks up a rather nice dial.

I think I know the answer from another thread. For me I would have kept the PP

As the JLC is set for today's date, I presume you've swapped the Patek for it. Could be a red herring though.

The JLC is the nicer looking watch.
The Patek has the more prestigious branding on the dial.

Before anyone chimes in - Im an admirer of both brands...

Personally, Id rather wear the JLC and wait until I could acquire the right Patek - if owning a PP was a big consideration...

I'd take the JLC every day even though not my favourite PC design by them (don't like the moonphase display).

The PP does nothing for me in particular.

Both are cracking watches, obviously. Personally I prefer the JLC but whether or not you made the right decision depends (I think) on how well the watch you chose fits in with your current collection.

Patek for me regardless of brand or price - the jlc style does nothing for me.

    You did the right thing.

The JLC is not only pretty, but horologically impressive.

  16. #16
Interesting that most people like one or the other, but not both. I like both, but for different reasons.

Agreed, I think it's a mechanical marvel and I'd be very proud to own one.

And that was what swayed my decision in the end.

I'd rather have the Patek but don't feel too bad, the JLC is actually nicer, I'd only choose the PP as I'd personally wear it more often.

While neither of those watches is my cup of tea I would choose the JLC over that PP. I just can't get thrilled about that rubber strap...

Those are both nice watches, so congratulations, regardless of which one you chose.

Both are great. The JlC is particularly nice though, if a little busy. Enjoy.

I like both, but the JLC pips it for me. Especially after learning the Naut has non-hacking seconds.

The Patek. But I would have saved up for a 3940.

The JLC. On the other hand, had the Patek been the Nautilus, it would have been closer!

Two absolutely outstanding watches. I have a GO PC so for me it would have to be the Patek. Ideally I'd have both, though.

I would choose the Patek, this particular JLC is a bit busy for my taste.

The Amvox on SC is an entirely different matter...

It'd have to the JLC for me, as it's just not the right Patek. Amazing, of course, but the JLC is just a tad more interesting.

Both lovely but it would be the Patek for me - classic, simple design.

Swap the JLC for the PP.

Both are very nice, as long as you were happy then that is THE result tbh.

    Definitely the JLC!

I make that about 17 to 14 in favour of the Patek. Interesting that many people who are knowledgable about such matters choose a simple 3 hand steel watch over a pretty rare complication...at the same somewhat eye watering price. They shouldn't really be comparable really and yet somehow they are, which is why I'm still not sure. Not sure, but quite happy.

If you've got the JLC, I'd say yes. The PP is just ugly.

If it helps, John, "not sure but quite happy" sums up my feelings very well too. I really do think both watches are little pieces of perfection in their own way, so neither of us could make a mistake, right?

Another vote for the JLC here ,the dial is gorgeous and I'm a fan of complications. Not keen on the design of that particular Patek.

    JLC

JLC dial is pure class. Not much going on with the PP.

Ha, read the opening post and knew it had to be you :) You have been chasing the Aquanaut a few years now, it had to happen,.

FWIW Tony, and as a massive JLC fan, I would have chosen my Glashutte PC above the JLC as well. Just something special about that watch.

Yes, you have a good memory, Lewis - it was a toss up between the Aquanaut and APRO when I bought the latter, and that must have been a couple of years ago. As for the GO, I just can't let it, errr, go... I guess it really is a keeper.

JLC, that Patek is not nice.

  47. #47
The JLC, because the white date wheel on the Patek jars to my eye. But clearly neither is a tragically poor choice

A little part of me says that, despite the obvious charms of these things, I'm happier with a Monster. I must be losing it again.

Aquanaut for me as it is one of my three favourite watches and I prefer three handers.
Love JLC as a brand though

    JLC.
    Patek needs a complication.
