Thread: MX5

    MX5

    Just....too small.

Saw one driving past, a minute ago, and it looked too small for the guy driving it. All the dynamic brilliance, lost to scale issues..

Do not be so big then.....your problem, not the car's. Your loss for being a fat boy.

All those threads where people recommend an MX5 and nobody's mentioned this fundamental issue before. They may literally need to rewrite the internet.

I quite fancy one as a silly summer car, but I'm 6'2" and weigh 230lbs (not really fat, just stocky) - but I'm afraid it will look silly (although I'm big and confident enough to ignore the hairdresser car comments). Tried a Westfield once and couldn't even get in!

Wondering why people with no interest in watches are on a watch forum?

In my old mk1 mx5 I had my friend as a passenger who was 6ft5 and 20ish stone, he fit in it a lot better than he did my Elise.

I'm six foot three but a bit of a dachsund - short legs, long body - and fitted my old Mk1 like a rather snug glove, just about managed with a 2.5 that I owned later, but couldn't drive a Mk3 at all: just about got in it but the top of the windscreen frame was right in my line of sight. Seat as low and far back as it would go, of course. Couldn't even drive the thing down the road, sadly, due to the fact that I could only see the bonnet and the sky....

Mrs had a MK1 that i fitted in ok as a passenger and was a nice snug driving position too.

she then had a MK2 and i hated that as the steering wheel sat lower and overall it was a horrible position for me, as a passenger too with the dash just seeming lower and in the way.

Although to be fair i am 6'5" so a lot of cars aren't a happy place for me, but this is specifically relevant to the MX5 in it's various guises.

What's worse, in all my years of being both over six foot and an MX-5 owner I never realised how out of scale we are to each other. I must sell it immediately and buy some kind of 4x4. Not a Panda 4x4, obvs.

    We didn't like to say...

I must look a real dick in my Sprite. Still, I'm having a hell of a lot of fun whilst looking like a dick.

Go for a facelift model 03 onwards they have a 6 speed gearbox and don't have the precat / oval piston issue
